Oh Mercy! Did I just see Bob Dylan selling cars in a Super Bowl commercial?

  1. As they should. It's their debt, government by the people and for them. Responsibility.

  2. I don't know, but Bob Dylan is at least from the Midwest.

I was just shocked to see him in an ad. I'm not sure what to make of it. It would be easier to digest if Detroit, Michigan was a city in Minnesota.

It's the Eminem spot, not the Eastwood spot - Eminem did it first! :)

True - and Eastwood was born in CA! I guess Eastwood just seems more connected to Detroit, maybe because "Gran Torino" was out not that long ago, and Clint makes more sense as a car salesman anyway.

    Dylan? Detroit? Cars? Huh?

He said "let Germany brew your beer" - guess that kills any deal with Anheuser Busch.

Well, it does cost a lot of money to fund a stable of handlers that makes sure no one looks at you, no one knows any of your personal affairs, and no one can recognize your tunes when performed in concert.

    I'm half-kidding on that last one. :)

    Where's Bill Hicks?

I really hate seeing how everyone is now a corporate ****ing shill. Do these people really need the money? Big thumbs-down from this 90s kid.

call me naive, but I'd be surprised if dylan took any $ for this. I think he was probably sincere about the pro-Detroit sentiments, clichéd as they may be.

recall he donated his take from Christmas in the Heart to hunger relief in the US...

I don't mind. Selling out nowadays is actually being on the radio.

  16. He probably took money for this (Dylan always cared about money), but he's no doubt sincere about the pro-Detroit thing. Econonomic nationalism is a theme in many of his songs.

Was it just me or did Dylan's voice sound less gravelly than it has in years?

Still trying to wrap my head around this one. I remember seeing the Victoria's Secret commercial when it first came out and I was like, "It makes sense with Bob in it, because it's Bob and he never makes any sense." Now with this one I can't tell if he's throwing a curveball or being sincere. Then again, he just doesn't give a s**t because he's Bob Dylan.

I agree. Not only is he from the Midwest, he has the stature to pull this off. I mean, it will always be about his music with us, but he's an iconic American figure--not unlike Eastwood, who did a similar commercial a few Super Bowls ago.

Clint Eastwood. He did a commercial for Chrysler/Detroit a couple years ago.
