While Johannette Zomer is quite good, I still consider Elly Ameling the best Dutch Soprano for the breadth and depth of her repertories ...

I recall Emma Kirkby showing up at the Musical Offering, Evelyn Tubb in tow. This must have been been related to a Cal Performances event. Robert Cole, its director, regularly did business over lunch at the M.O., often in the picture windows. His office was directly across the street, in the Zellerbach Hall complex. In any case, Jean Spencer, Joseph's wife, reminisced to me of having Emma and others over to stay at their place when they flew in for performances. Jean and Joseph often offered up spare rooms for performing artists, a big part of their production of classical music events. If you were an Early Music performer Joseph and Jean were the best hosts in the world. Of course they were always good hosts.

Judith Nelson was "Judy" at the Musical Offering, a regular like a lot of other people involved with the San Francisco Early Music Society. She also performed regularly for the San Francisco Bach Choir and Jeffery Thomas' group, the American Bach Soloists. Nice lady, an anti-Diva.

Interesting. I have only known Karajan having mentored Anne Sofie Mutter and Seiji Ozawa ...

He invited her at that time (I believe it was in 1977) to play with the Berliner Philharmoniker.....

That is a beautiful set. What a shame Hogwood and the AAM never finished their Haydn cycle.

Weren't Philharmonia Baroque Orcehstra and Nicholas McGegan closely associated with the Berkeley group as well?

Now on the turntable, "Christopher Tye - Euge Bone Mass/Western Wind Mass" performed by The Choir of King's College, Cambridge led by Sir David Willcocks on Argo.

Can't find the album cover online. :(

Yup, and as they rehearsed/performed at First Congregational Church, 'round the corner at Dana and Dwight, Philharmonis Baroque, including Nick, were also regulars at the M.O. Helps to have food and wine, particularly when it's good.

Among all American baroque ensembles that performed on period instruments. Philharmonia Baroque is really the only one I care to listen to ...

Just out of curiosity, have you ever recorded Emily Van Evera, another American soprano of early music?

Probably, as the name rings a bell. But obviously not memorably.

IIRC Leinsdorf didn't have much that was nice to say about Dynagroove.I agree with your assessment though.

I know it's blasphemy, but for sheer energy and passion,I prefer Munch's 1947 reading of the Saint-Saens,with the New York Philharmonic.

Beneath Glenn Gould`s and Alexis Weissenberg`s epic interpretations Irma Issakadze makes it to my Bach Partitas most beloved recordings.......if unknown, this comes highly recommended !!
