How about a thread for all the great 12-inch remixes (or other versions, instrumentals, etc.) that never made it beyond the vinyl single, or worse, a promo single. This is one area where YouTube has rescued 80s music geeks like me.

Here's one: Patti Austin - Do You Love Me (Long Version)

Completely agree with this. The Annihilation Mix of Two Tribes, IMO, is the daddy of 80s 12" mixes. The Carnage Mix, which came out around the same time is pretty damn good too.

There is no 12 inch extended version of this song. Just a crappy remix by Bob Clearmountain and a later less crappy Bryan "Chuck" New remix.

If you don't know of this blog yet, you're really missing out. Excellent vinyl rips done with lots of care.

Yes, i know of that one, it's one of my favourites blogs and it's one of my top bookmark. That guy Paul does amazing rips indeed and thanks to him i've acquired some amazing 80's 12 inches which i included in volumes 1 and 2. Georgio Moroder's 13 minute version of Chase is one of them.

"Hot Water" - Level 42. None of the YouTube postings have the 12" "Mastermix" version, with Mike Lindup ending the song by saying "Bye bye everybody, bye bye".

Seeing this thread inspired me to grab my needledrop version of Duran Duran's Tiger! Tiger! Disco Mixes cd for the car this morning.

    1. The Reflex (Dance Mix)
    2. Union of the Snakes (Monkey Mix)
    3. New Moon on Monday (Dance Mix)
    4. Is There Something I Should Know? (Monster Mix)
    5. Tiger Tiger

Also worth noting there were some excellent cd singles by Seal during the era of my current avatar. No surprise given he was on ZTT and Trevor Horn was producing, but the remixes on "Crazy", "Killer" and "The Beginning" are all quite good. Does early 90s still qualify for this thread? :)

Yeah of course, there were some amazing 12 inches in the early 90's. 1990 to 1993 were the best 90's years for me from that era.
Your reccomendations are from those years. There is also a longer version of Future Love Paradise on a special EP.

You're right Dave - I never had that cd single but found that excellent extended mix on iTunes a few years ago.

1 Future Love Paradise (Remix) 6:35
2 Future Love Paradise (Beats Mix) 6:08
3 Future Love Paradise (Accapella Mix) 6:00

My favorite 12" compilation from the 80's is 'Howard Jones: The 12" Album'. In fact, I can't even listen to the album versions of many of the songs from it because they sound "incomplete" to me now.

"Always Asking Questions" is a particular highlight.
