Had anyone heard this performance, or for that matter, these recent DG lp pressings? They are pricey. Thanks!

I have that box and the 1990's box. The 1980's box was OOP when I started my search.

I have the CD and love it. Great sound too. There is a certain Gramophone critic who seems to hate Mutter. In one of the most petty reviews, he provided very little substance. He is extremely upset that Mutter chose not to appear with the Berlin Philharmonic for years after Karajan. On the other hand, Classics Today rated it very high and called Manfred Honeck a genius.

My pleasure! Lets see if you get an early pressing, in that cardboard case that I am so fond of. (I own most of the early volumes in that series, along with the second issue of the complete set) The paper for the notes is thick, heck, I even like the font they use for the text.

Just listened to two new CDs that were delivered today.

"Celilia Bartoli - St Petersburg" on Decca.

and "Patricia Petibon - La Belle Excentrique" on DG.

Completely different types of music, but beautiful voices and excellent sound quality.

One of the best arguments in favor of the CD I have ever heard:

John Cage: Works for Percussion volume 5. The 1991 number pieces have an eerie beauty and very long stretches of silence interrupted by loud 'Koan" of sound. The reservoir of silence that CD provides is necessary for the spell. Exemplary sound quality.

Now listening to "Credo" performed by Helene Grimaud accompanied by the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra & Choir led by Esa-Pekka Salonen on DG.

Works by Corigliano, Beethoven and Part.

(A few posts ago I commented that I found more copies of the Janine Jansen album cover on Google Images than any other album I've ever searched for, but now this one takes its place)

Have you heard him in the Bach cello suites? MHS issued them, probably as usual under license from somebody or other (I'm too lazy to go pull the album and look it up); I assume they must be from very early on in his career, before he zeroed in on the conductor's podium. And, yes, his name appears on the cover as Nikolaus d'Harnoncourt.

Yes, sounds like he's chewing the music, vigorously.

Is this a big box by Gimell? I have most of the Gimell singles in my early music collection ...

I think he is among the last members of the Hapsburg line. He is the only conductor who came from a European royalty backgroud. IIRC, he was a cellist with the VPO but was shut out by HvK for one concert, as HvK regarded HIP as complete nonsense ...
