I havebeen using vintage Sansui 9090db and a Marantz 2325 with great enjoyment and have been looking for a clean Yamaha cr-1020 to add to the collection. Love the big sound of these old units. Any fellow sufferers out there with stories to share?
I am currently setting up a unit that duplicates my hifi stereo from humble beginnings. Everything will be early 70's orientated. A place to escape with a cool drink and go back in time if only temporarily.
I have a lovely Marantz 2230 in the living room and a just restored Fisher 400 in my office. Good for now.
I'm using a Luxman L-235 which has a great sounding phonostage built in. Looking for a bigger one, like an L-525 or 55a.
I wouldn't mind one of those vintage Fisher or Marantz receivers folks here rave about. Years back I bought a new looking 70's era big/heavy JVC JR-S400 receiver from a thrift store for 40 bucks. It actually came with original manuals, product line brochures , paperwork, extra fuses, etc. Puts out a big full sound... fun to listen to. Paired up with a $30 Dual CS505-2 Turntable and $25 Boston Acoustic A60 speakers.
I'm using a Sherwood S-8600 in the living room, getting an S-7600 rebuilt as I speak. They are high-fidelity items, nothing to look down anyone's nose at or be 'nostalgic' about.
I have, although not currently in my possession, a Marantz 4400. It's out having its internals restored. Been waiting about a year and a half for the tech to get it back to me. The day will come... the day will come... until then while I read that others are enjoying their classic units.

I wouldn't mind owning a Sansui G-33000 if I had the room for it (and the back to carry). The ones I have that I rotate in and out of various setups are: Harman Kardon 730 Fischer 800-B / 800-C Sansui 9090DB Pioneer SX-1080 / SX-980 / SX-880 / SX- 780 Yamaha CR-2020 Concept 16.5 Have a number of other ones scattered around but to lazy to remember the numbers.
At the moment I have the following: Marantz 4300 (Quad) Onkyo TX-4500 MkII Onkyo TX-810 Technics SA-700 Advent 300 Enough for me, given I'm not really a receiver kinda guy. When nice ones have turned up for free or nearly so I have a hard time turning them down, though. I've gifted quite a few over the years as well.
My Hifi buying days started in the 70's, with a nice but lower powered Pioneer receiver. I liked the higher powered Pioneers, Marantz and Tandberg receivers. Over the years I've owned those other receivers, and wouldn't mind one day an Onkyo, as I was looking at one for a bit back in, I guess 1977. Never was interested in a Technics or Sansui. Not sure why not.

Just to add some sonic impressions, the STA-90 really has a wonderfully balanced sound, its 45 WPC is stronger that one would expect, the tuner sounds lush and pulls in stations very strong, the aux in with a CD player sounds great, but.... I don't care much for the phono section. It also has a lot of flexibility for tape dubbing. Overall an amazing unit for its time, it was dubbed "the sleeper" as it far exceeded its specs. The STA-2080 has more oomph at 80 WPC and the phono section is much more to my liking, the tuner does not sound as good as the STA-90 though, but a CD player sounds great running into the aux input, and having a tone control bypass is a plus. For the minimal dollars I paid, (less than $100 each) for these 2 receivers they were an outstanding bargain. I prefer either of these to my newer current model Yamaha RS-700.
Slightly off track. Its not a receiver but I would love a JVC AX5 or AX7 or AX9 Amplifier. Sold mine many years ago and have regretted it ever since.
