The Magnificent Seven remake*

Chris Pratt looks to be involved and Denzel Washington as well (probably play Chris) (M7 was, of course, a remake as well).

God, we really need some original films.

 

Yeah - here's a film that really needs remaking. Should be a doddle to improve on the casting. Vinn Diesel as Chris and Chris Pine instead of Steve McQueen?

What makes them think they can improve on the original?

 

Studios don't remake films to improve on the original, they produce them to make a profit. That's the only reason.

 

Find the logic flaw here:

Movie made money first time around=>technology is better now=>tastes don't change over time=>new film would be a hit

 

Audiences consider westerns as kind of passé. What was the last blockbuster western?

 

Yes and they're banking on an built-in audience due to the prominence of the original. I can't wait until they remake Gone With The Wind.

Wow - how time flies. Sorry, I simply did not realize that.

 

More recently we had Open Range but that was 12 years ago and There have seen smaller westerns since such as3:10 to Yuma but that was 7 years ago. Nothing in the way of a major production though.

 

What's next? The Wild Bunch? Uh oh....let's not give them any ideas!

 

why do they do this? because they can...I see no problem with it as one is not forced to watch it...but, sure loves to trash it even before it's released! ...must be something in the water.

You're forgetting The Lone Ranger. Not a blockbuster, but definitely a major production.

 

The Magnificent Seven is itself a remake (of sorts).

 

Pool in half expendables n' half f&f, at least Strat n V diesel.

The 2010 "True Grit" remake cost about $40M and made $250M. It also was very well reviewed by film critics.

 

or Django Unchained which is a western movie for the most part

 

The following modern westerns have done very well, and were great films imo.

True Grit is the closest comparison to a remake of the M7. I would have thought that would be terrible too, but it was great. I liked EVERY character outside of John Wayne better. And this may sound blasphemous, but Jeff Bridges nearly equaled Wayne's performance.

 

Totally forgot about Django, even though I had just watched it again a few days ago. When I initially saw this thread title, I even thought that Jamie Foxx would be great in M7. Who has more cred as a cowboy with the younger audience right now? Now if we could just get that other contemporary Western actor Seth McFarlane, we'd be set.

Of course I'm kidding about McFarlane, but not Foxx.

 

I'll stick with "The Seven Samurai".
