A balance of both works best. I hate when a TV series that just seem like a never ending soap opera. An overall story arc is great if there are brief interludes of stand-alone episode stories.

I'm in the middle of Season 7.
A lot farther than I ever got originally.
Only one episode I had to skip so far is X Cops.
    WTF was that?

I thought "X Cops" was decent. I think the fact it was (intentionally) shot on video tape gave it a "cheap" look but for me it didn't affect the story itself.

I'll definitely watch it, though my interest in the original series dropped off at some point midway. I don't think it had anything to do with the series itself, my interests changed.

Hopefully this will spur a blu-ray release of the entire series so I can catch up.

Bring back more old shows! "Married With Children" and "Get A Life" next!

Ummm you are forebidden to even watch X-files because it is not on blu ray?
I enjoy the grain murkness of the first seasons it will be lost when blu ray comes.
It won't kill you. though, Tooms might.?

The Blu-rays will more than likely tie-in to the airing of the mini-series. Is it OK to call it a mini-series? 6 episodes. Sounds like a mini-series to me. Anyway, as with most DVD/Blu-ray releases of continuing TV shows, the DVD/Blu-rays of the previous season are released just before the new season in order to cross promote the two.

  16. Can't wait. I have every single episode of the original. Loved the show through to the end.

All this X-Files talk is making me think I should go back and watch the entire series from start to finish (again!).... I'm on holidays for a couple weeks and don't have much else going on anyway.... :p

9 seasons' worth of ogling Scully....

BTW, just a casual observation: note that Chris Carter's generally well-received Amazon pilot The After was not picked up for series. I don't think it's a coincidence that he would turn back to X-Files as a way to return to television.

I'm just hoping they'll tie the two series together and spend some time addressing the 279 unanswered questions from the old show.

Note that Gillian Anderson is now 47. She was 25 when the original show started. She actually didn't look too bad last year in Crisis, a show nobody watched.

Actually, I much prefer Gillian Anderson as a blonde... but I wouldn't kick redheaded Scully out of bed, either. ;)

I thought she looked amazing in Crisis! I missed the last few episodes of that show. Did they come up with a last minute resolution for that one?

What I am anxious about, is how the new credits will look like?
I don't like season 6 out all the seasons it tired.

Do you mean the season 9 credits? They were changed dramatically for the final season.

I enjoyed season 6. So many great episodes: Drive with Bryan Cranston, the very unique Triangle, Dreamland, Dreamland II, How the Ghosts Stole Christmas with Ed Asner and Lily Tomlin, Two Fathers, One Son, Agua Mala, Monday, The Unnatural and one of the weirdest and coolest episodes in the entire series, Field Trip. An excellent season in my opinion.
