The cover above had no text or title on original vinyl covers, although it may have been stickered over the shrink. Later versions added the title. The cropping used is the same though. "A Basket of Roses" by Henri Fantin-Latour:
Yeah, the forum mucking up again. One presses "Post", yet the posts appear to not have been posted, only to appear some time later. Happened a few times, yet I still haven't learned NOT to press that button over and over again in despair
Sorry but I can't see this without thinking of Almost Famous, where the mother points at their eyes...
There was a framed copy, under glass, of that complete ad, on the wall in the men's bathroom at Kansas City's huge used music store, The Music Exchange, from at least 2000-2005. The Music Exchange closed and sold its inventory. I asked the owner, Ron Rooks, what he wanted for the complete ad. He said $3,000.00. So I did not buy it. The complete ad has a lot of fine print, with a great deal of information about clothing and equipment for the rodeo.
I'm wondering if the version that was used for the album was simply the same exact shot, but with Bob's pupils digitally enhanced in Photoshop to appear to be looking directly at the photographer rather than off to the side.
Ever notice that it was an older 48-State version of the US flag that was technically out-of-date at the time that this Beatles photo was taken?
Great thread! And I can't believe I never did, either. All these decades I thought it was a golf club.
I didn't realize the cake pic was the same as the Beatles VI cover until the early 1990s...all those years before I thought they were all leaning on a baseball bat!
Yes! I had mentioned "alternate shot" on my initial post accompanying that picture, but there was a forum error when I posted it.
Didn't see these anywhere (although some of the oldest posts in this thread have dead links, so maybe they were one of those). (Not the same exact photo, but cool alternate shot.)
