    if you say so.

there was a time when i would have agreed with you to my dying breath, but ianymore, i just don't know..

farner didn't have the chops or song-stealing skills of page back in the day, i;ll give you that, but lately...............especially after the led zeppelin reissue debacle....i just lost even more respect for page.

If your going to judge on everything then your going to miss out on what you hear playing your format and what you see and hear at a concert. Bummer for you guys.

Who are you directing your comments at? I never judged anyone just stating facts as best of my knowledge. And I like both bands very much for very different reasons.

Sure it wasn't Rundgren @ a Raspberries show hearing them play this song, only to return and suggest this to GFR? Eric Carmen and Todd have a love/hate relationship.

No, the story's been told that way since 1974.

The original Berries closed many shows with the one-two punch of "The Locomotion"/"Be My Baby." Eric performed it as well during his solo gigs. I'd have to check my tapes to be certain, but I'm not sure the STARTING OVER lineup played the cover. If they did it wasn't too often. They had written some solid concert closers for their LP including "Party's Over" and "Play On."

Raspberries played this song on tour in 1973.

What's the Led Zeppelin reissue debacle? Those reissues have been great.

    i respectfully disagree.

how many "new" songs did we get from the entire lot....2?....3?

it was an easy way to make a boatload of cash by putting unfinished tapes out with working titles.

i said it before and i repeat it here, jimmy page is the laziest man in rock and roll, easily stealing the title away form pete townshend after the led zeppelin stuff.

    and i ask again here:

when was the last time jimmy page played his guitar: either live or in the studio?

I saw Grand Funk live a few times at the height of their "heavy" stage (first two or three LPs) and I saw Led Zeppelin on their first U.S. tour or so. (Never together, except at Atlanta Pop.)

Led Zeppelin had no reason to fear any band, they were explosive right out of the box. Grand Funk was quite popular for a while, people knew their songs and they put on a good loud pounding show with lots of guitar heroics.

If Grand Funk had any kind of edge on Led Zeppelin, it was the songs (at that early point in Zeppelin's career). Not that the Grand Funk tunes were all that great, but they went over and you could sing along. Page and Co. were still kinda the "New Yardbirds" and reliant on extended white boy blues and psychedelic jams. And Grand Funk played to the crowd, hamming it up in a hair band way.

If the Led Zeppelin team didn't want the frenzy of another hot young band on the bill, it's understandable. But to think Led Zeppelin was being blown off the stage is absurd.

lots of reissues and best of's, not much new stuff.

but not even close to being as bad as page.

page since 1994: (as far as i know)

lucifer rising soundtrack (5 songs - vinyl only - 2012
black crowes - guest on whole album - 2000
jerry lee lewis - guest on one song - 2006
foo fighters - guest on one song - 2008

townshend since 2000: (as far as i know)

    endless wire - 2006
lifehouse chronicles and elements - 2000
    live la jolla - 2000
the who 50 years - one new song - 2014
    truancy - 2015 - 2 new songs

you be the judge on what is lazy and what is not.

These examples are not so good, especially for artists that have toured plenty in the last 15 years. Touring takes a lot of time and work.

Page did tour with the Crows, Pete has toured with the Who. etc.

I think Grand Funk very much had the edge on vocals too. Often lush sounding nice backing vocals. And the vocals were well mixed into the songs, with almost classical music style arrangements.

Damn lazy 70 year olds! :blah:

    I love the Zep reissues.

To bring this on topic ...

It would be great to see some Grand Funk reissues,
and those Friday Music things don't count.

Peter Grant had Terry Knight by the throat. He had his feet off the ground. He had to be pulled off of him. They pulled the power on Grand Funk and Zeppelin waited an hour and a half before taking the stage. GF was later kicked off the tour.

NO ONE from Zeppelin has ever come forward and said "This is a bunch of BULL-loney! It's a lie! It never happened!" I think *that* is more telling than anything anyone associated with GFR has ever said about that incident.

Page is 71 and worth $170 million. He can do or not do what the hell he wants, not what others think he should do.
