Actors who played the same character in different (non-sequel, non-series) films

Michael Keaton plays the same character, Ray Nicolette, in Jackie Brown and Out of Sight, both based on Elmore Leonard novels.

Remember, the movies cannot be sequels or series films (like James Bond).

Any other cases like this?

 

Alan Hale played Little John in 3 different Robin Hood films (2 off them the best ever made) for 3 different studios in 3 different decades.

Kevin Smith and Jason Mewes play Jay and Silent Bob in a number of films.

They aren't technically sequels but are standalone films (despite a number of actors performing in many of them, as difference characters). Well, Clerks II is a sequel, but the others - Mallrats, Chasing Amy, Dogma, and Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back.

Jay & Silent Bob also cameo'd in Scream 3 and Silent Bob also cameo'd in Drawing Flies (Mewes was in the film too but played a different character). I didn't know about these two cameos, but thanks, Wiki.

 

I found out when I considered Keaton for the thread on five actors in five great films of different genres.

 

If an actor played the same role, say, 25 years after the original, and the second film is not an obvious sequel (i.e., they don't have similar names, like Psycho and Psycho II), that would count. I'm thinking of a movie like this right now.

 

David Hedison as Felix Leiter in Live And Let Die (1973) and Licence To Kill (1989).

 

I'll allow that one because, even though both films are in the Bond series...

1. The first was a Roger Moore and the second a Timothy Dalton; and...

2. Other actors played Felix Leiter in between.

And also because this is going to be a really tough thread.

 

Btw, spin-off movies count. These might center around a character (or characters) who appeared in another movie from the same director, but who was not the central character of the first movie. Therefore, the second film is neither a sequel nor a series installment.

I haven't seen it, but I believe Christopher Lloyd reprised his role as Doc Brown for a cameo in A Million Ways to Die in the West.

Didn't Richard Belzer play his detective role from Homicide: Life On The Street in several other shows like Law & Order? I remember seeing him in that role for an episode of The X-Files.

Yeah, it might be a good idea not to go down the TV road, as there have been a ton of spin-offs there. This could get really out of control.

So, movies only, please. No TV.

Jeannette Charles has played Queen Elizabeth II in dozens of films.


Ian Hart played John Lennon in "The Hours And Times" and "Backbeat".

Though it may not be the same EXACT character, Henry Fonda played "The President" in both FAIL SAFE and METEOR.
