The matrix you state is exactely the same as the matrix number of the truly very first West German pressing of BiB, the full aluminium-to-center-hub CD that reads "MADE IN WEST GERMANY BY POLYGRAM" on the bottom area of the label side. I did not do an EAC rip of that disc yet, but I would suggest that obviously the same glass master has been used. In the early-to-mid 1980ies, most CDs for many different record labels were pressed at the huge CD plant in Hanover/West Germany, because there were no other plants in the world (except for Japan). Later, the Warner/Atlantic and related labels built their own CD plant in Alsdorf (now in use for WME/ "Warner manufacturing Europe"). Obviously some of the glass masters were simply handed over from Hannover to Alsdorf, and the very first BiB CDs pressed at the then new Alsdorf plant were made from the master that originally had been made/used at the Hanover plant. So, does this master provide the Barry Diament mastering? It seems to be confirmed here that the Japan 20P2 pressing does have the Diament mastering. I just checked the DR database for the 20P2 (follow this ink http://dr.loudness-war.info/album/view/18233) - and the result is, that all tracks of the 20P2 have the same peak level, except for track no.7 (You shook me...) which has a higher peak, just as with the EAC Levels you posted. See also here http://forums.stevehoffman.tv/threa...al-back-in-black-cd-please-view.280643/page-2 (post no 27 and 30) more examples of pressings with exactely this mastering.
Just picked up a 5 CD bundle on eBay for £20, a Diament Who Made Who, Ballbreaker and 3 other unremastered titles, HTH, BIB & FTATR. FTATR credits Ludwig but it think it may be the Diament, it sounds excellent. Highway to Hell sounds fantastic as well so i'm hoping it's a Barry too. Back In Black i'm not sure about yet, Diament not credited, it sounds not bad but it's not blowing me away. When you hit play on Who Made Who the bass just leaps out of the speakers, and i always thought 80s CDs sounded thin with no depth. Can i just say the Highway to Hell sounds awesome....good old eBay! Looks like i may be selling my Ted Jensens.
Diament mastered the original Atlantic. Not sure it's known who mastered the original and also excellent Albert. Please note the original Japan For Au Albert is a different mastering from the Au for Au Albert. There is Germany [not WG] original CD that also has a different mastering see-http://forums.stevehoffman.tv/threads/just-received-original-back-in-black-cd-please-view.280643/page-2. Also there was a 90's remaster of the Atlantic Back In Black which was done my Ted Jensen. I think the art is very similar. IMHO that remaster is inferior to the original however there are those on this forum that have a different opinion. Which is why I think when fiscally possible always best to do one's own compares.
I have the Ted Jensen but just picked up an Atlantic 7567-81472-2, not sure if it's the Diament, sounds pretty good when cranked but so does the Jensen.
The 1st australian albert is slightly better in my opinion but not by that much. Diement-mastering is easier to find...
Think i prefer the Jensen remaster, it packs more punch. Anyone else a fan of the Jensen AC/DC remasters?
Could someone tell me if this pressing of BIB is a Barry CD: http://www.acdc-discography.com/d95.html I just got this CD from an ebay seller yesterday and I'm pretty sure it is a Barry CD but I'd like someone more experienced in this topic to say something soi I'll know for sure here's the EAC info: TOC of the extracted CD Track | Start | Length | Start sector | End sector --------------------------------------------------------- 1 | 0:00.00 | 5:12.10 | 0 | 23409 2 | 5:12.10 | 5:17.70 | 23410 | 47254 3 | 10:30.05 | 3:35.40 | 47255 | 63419 4 | 14:05.45 | 3:32.15 | 63420 | 79334 5 | 17:37.60 | 4:14.17 | 79335 | 98401 6 | 21:52.02 | 4:15.58 | 98402 | 117584 7 | 26:07.60 | 3:30.17 | 117585 | 133351 8 | 29:38.02 | 3:59.00 | 133352 | 151276 9 | 33:37.02 | 4:05.70 | 151277 | 169721 10 | 37:42.72 | 4:14.43 | 169722 | 188814 Track 1 Filename C:\BIB\01 Track01.wav Peak level 87.0 % Extraction speed 2.6 X Track quality 100.0 % Copy CRC FF9A6FE9 Copy OK Track 2 Filename C:\BIB\02 Track02.wav Peak level 87.0 % Extraction speed 7.1 X Track quality 100.0 % Copy CRC 7AAF3706 Copy OK Track 3 Filename C:\BIB\03 Track03.wav Peak level 87.0 % Extraction speed 7.9 X Track quality 100.0 % Copy CRC 99F703E0 Copy OK Track 4 Filename C:\BIB\04 Track04.wav Peak level 87.0 % Extraction speed 8.3 X Track quality 100.0 % Copy CRC 08673D41 Copy OK Track 5 Filename C:\BIB\05 Track05.wav Peak level 87.0 % Extraction speed 8.7 X Track quality 100.0 % Copy CRC 91A09985 Copy OK Track 6 Filename C:\BIB\06 Track06.wav Peak level 87.0 % Extraction speed 9.2 X Track quality 100.0 % Copy CRC 975CC21B Copy OK Track 7 Filename C:\BIB\07 Track07.wav Peak level 89.1 % Extraction speed 9.5 X Track quality 100.0 % Copy CRC FED27098 Copy OK Track 8 Filename C:\BIB\08 Track08.wav Peak level 87.0 % Extraction speed 9.7 X Track quality 100.0 % Copy CRC 41DF2E37 Copy OK Track 9 Filename C:\BIB\09 Track09.wav Peak level 87.0 % Extraction speed 10.2 X Track quality 100.0 % Copy CRC 14CE9DCD Copy OK Track 10 Filename C:\BIB\10 Track10.wav Peak level 87.0 % Extraction speed 10.2 X Track quality 100.0 % Copy CRC EB57F722 Copy OK No errors occurred End of status report
At first, I preferred the original Albert Australia for Australia CD for Back In Black. Then I started turning it up loud and to my surprise, the vocals were "in your face" and harsh sounding. So then I got out the Diament Back In Black and turned it up loud. To my surprise, no vocal harshness whatsoever. No listener fatigue. The Albert was a bit warmer, but overall the Diament had the best frequency balance. So I completely did an about face, Barry's is the hand's down winner for me. Then I thought to myself, what about For Those About To Rock? My preferred version was the original Albert Australia for Australia CD also. So I popped in the Diament and turned it up loud. And to my surprise the opposite was in play for the Diament. The vocals were harsh sounding. So I popped in the original Albert and turned it up. To my surprise, no vocal harshness whatsoever. No listener fatigue. Better overall frequency balance. So wrong on one right on the other. Go figure? Also, I have confirmed positively I have the Diament versions for both of the titles above. These are the only AC/DC Diaments from the original master tapes to my understanding, so I didn't deem it necessary to go back and recompare the other Diament masterings to the Alberts for the remaining AC/DC catalog.
Yes it is the Diament. Mine has the exact same peak levels. I believe there is more confirmation of that above.

The Diament mastered BIB and FTATR sound fantastic on a good system with the volume high. The drum sound is very natural and tight.
Can you varify that I got the right one? http://s000.tinyupload.com/index.php?file_id=27329544787446978572 I have nothing to compare it to, and I keep getting paranoid by posts like this...
Someone should be able to confirm that matrix number. I'm traveling for the next week, but I'll try to remember to check my copies when I get back.
Based on the peak level information I'm almost positive you have Barry's mastering, if you could send me the first few seconds (the first ringing of the bell) of Hells Bells I can compare it with my Canadian Columbia house CD (which I can confirm is Barry's mastering) and give you a more conclusive answer.
Truth be told after I bought it I wondered if I was actually getting Barry's mastering or not since I couldn't find a straightforward answer regarding this particular pressing but once I saw did an EAC rip and compared the peak level information with that of other users who had posted EAC info from their CD's that are confirmed to have Barry's mastering I was almost certain I got it.
