Box sets like this are what made CD buying in the '90s so damn glorious... The package just showed so much respect for the music, the artists, and the listeners.
The audio quality was top-notch; it was presented in a comprehensive fashion; it had exhaustive informational notes; and aesthetically, it was wonderful package.

Everly Brothers "Heartaches and Harmonies" from 1994 is fantastic. 103 songs spanning from 1951 - 1990.

Good sound. The liner notes by Don and Phil are amazing. People are most familiar with the songs from the late 50s and early 60s but the quality continued, even if the sales declined. Each of the 4 discs is a treat!

Where do you get this information from? The Roxy Music 10 CD box set was universally praised by critics and fans alike. Please do your research before making such sweeping statements.

Another endorsement for the various Beach Boys sets, particularly the landmark Good Vibrations box. King Crimson's Great Deceiver set was another game changer, revealing the extraordinary invention of this band in a live setting, and we've only gotten more and more live archival goodies from DGM since then.

Here are a couple of good Rhino sets from the '90s that I don't think have been mentioned yet:

You don't like the sound? This was the first time the albums had been reissued from the Original Master Tapes. Prior to that, all they had were needledrops. I think the lps sound great, though, obviously, the demos are a bit spotty.

I love the long OOP 20 Years of Jethro Tull. The 25 year set, however, was almost completely extraneous.

I really think, where it's at at this point, are "complete" catalog boxed sets - with so much available via download, there is really no reason for most groups not to just release everything - i.e. The Beatles, the Dylan or Johnny Cash complete sets, with a Side Trax or Past Masters thrown in to mop up.

I know once I get beyond a single CD greatest hits, I'd prefer just diving into the whole thing.

On the multi-artist front, I love the Monterey Pop Festival box. And Rhino's Girl Group box. And the US and UK Nugget Boxes. And the San Francisco and Los Angeles boxes.

My latest box set purchase is always the best ( for a few weeks anyway).

A 5cd set from 2007. Purchased directly from Free Reed at the now bargain price of £24.95 Inc postage. Had it next day delivery off 'em. Excellent.
