Perhaps this thread should exclude reference to the 3 generally lauded (justifiably so) standout sets:
    1. Five Guys Walk Into A Bar
    2. Biograph
    3. Crossroads
    Others I enjoy include:
    • The Bob Marley Songs Of Freedom
    • The deluxe Last Waltz
    • The Neil Young collection of his first 4 albums
    • Skydog, D Allman

Skydog- Duane Allman (Shows his remarkable versatility. Regardless of the genre of what he was on, his presence always made it better.)
Where the Action Is- LA Nuggets (Great, unheard music from many who went on to greater fame- and many who didn't, but should have.)

Talking Heads' Once in a Lifetime box is stunning, particularly for the DVD with their videos. However, the box has a very irregular shape, so it's hard to find a good spot for it

Lots of the box sets that I bought have already been mentioned, so I'll just say right on for those!

A few that I have enjoyed over the years include:

    The Scepter Records Story (Capricorn)
    Cameo-Parkway 1957-1967 (ABKCO)
Fifty Years of Country Music from Mercury
    From The Vaults (MCA Country)
Loud, Fast and Out of Control (Rhino)
Beg, Scream & Shout - The Big Ol' Box of '60s (Rhino)
    The Complete Hank Williams (Mercury)

I thought about Ted Nugent "Out of Control", it's only 2 disc but it was packaged in a box as was The Rolling Stones "40 Licks". A box is a box.

One of the greatest collections ever. I rediscovered it recently after listening to one of JB's Christmas collections. So glad I got see him live twice (technically 2x plus an apology for his band's no-show).

King Crimson, The Great Deceiver did not disappoint in the least (that was a long time ago, though!).

The Stiff Box Set is pretty great, in spite of some filler on discs 3 and 4.

Have to disagree on this one. I found it extremely disappointing that the box set of "The Complete[sic] Bitches Brew[sic] Sessions" did not, in fact, contain the complete sessions that were recorded for Bitches Brew, and that over half of the material was from subsequent sessions (some of it previously released). Pretty box though.

The In a Silent Way box, OTOH, was amazing.

I can also recommend the Three Blind Mice box for fans of jazz. Another, not so easy to find is the Chrome Box. I can understand the enthusiasm for the Beatles stereo box but I tried a few single albums and IMO the BC-13 Blue Box is much better. AAA for those who obsess over such things. For me, BC-13 and Beatles in Mono pretty well takes care of the Beatles.

I get that. I still enjoy it for what it is. Actually, I find the Jack Johnson box set a pretty tough slog. The In a Silent Way box is my absolute favorite.

I own a score of them, and obviously wouldn't have bought them if I didn't like much of the material going in, but Elvis Presley - Walk A Mile In My Shoes: The 1970s Masters is probably the most fun I've had with a box set. It's not exactly comprehensive, collecting all the singles though not all the B-sides and just highlights of the rest of his albums, but it's so much fun. Presley really had a lot of fuel left in the tank for a walking dead guy.

I actually find the 1960s set of his work, From Nashville To Memphis, a bit of a bore by comparison. Which I think reflects the strength of the 1970s material, and the way it is organized, rather than any weakness of the 1960s set.

Free- Songs Of Yeaterday, 5CD, 2000. Almost every studio track an unreleased song, version, take or mix. Free Appreciation Society mainman David Clayton's loving tribute to the band and guitarist he's followed since the late 70s. A masterpiece. Essential.
