Does anyone else have the Shout Factory release of Leave It To Beaver?

I was very impressed by how good the video looked. They must have kept the original film masters (or video masters?) in very good condition.

The original pilot they include as a bonus is pretty neat, too. :)

Yes, but I got it as a Christmas gift. Also, the sound is so much clearer than in the old reruns!

  6. I have some of these, but I'd really like to wait for the blu rays. This and Gilligan's Island.

I don't know if I should hold my breath, though.

I would love The Twilight Zone treatment.

I own it. Great set. If I remember correctly, the first two seasons (shot at Republic Studios in Studio City) somehow looked grainier to me than the last four seasons (shot at Universal Studios).

The show was pretty clever with the way they handled the switch in production. There were episodes late in the second season about the Cleavers trying to sell their old house.

I got mine back in November, when Amazon was selling them for only $74.99. I've been watching them, and The Twilight Zone Complete Series, alternately, ever since.

I dickered with myself for years about buying it, thinking I might not enjoy it as much as I thought I did when I was younger. I was wrong. I've not only been laughing out loud a lot, but I just know this is what lies in store for my two grandsons, 5 and 8. Soon to be 6 and 9.

I would highly recommend it to anyone showing interest in it. Just don't be a sucker and pay full price for it. Someone always has a deal on these box sets, esp. a reputable eBay seller.

  10. Some people want to own it...HD from Netflix is not, as I recall, true HD but it does look pretty darn close.

I'd rather own the DVD set than pay Netflix to have limited-time access to it.

I'm amazed at how funny the show is (there really is some clever dialogue going on) and how timeless most of the plots are. A terrific cast helps, too.

It's not available to watch on Netflix now anyhow.

Ya it will be back, but ran out in the summer!
I watched many of the later season episodes.
Had heard of it but never really watched it.
Started to watch it to just laugh at it, but ended up really liking it!

I like that Beaver acts like a real kid would and does risky and stupid things. I can relate! :)

It could have been better. Universal placed the cold opens on the earlier episodes in the wrong places (AFTER the opening credits instead of BEFORE).

Pretty much the same here. I also pulled the trigger on that Amazon sale back in November, but had been contemplating getting it for a while. I loved watching the show in syndication as a kid back in the late '80's (it was on either WGN or TBS, forgot which), but hadn't watched it much since and wasn't sure if I'd still like it. Glad I bought it! I'm working my way through it slowly (I'm presently around the end of Season 1), but have really enjoyed it thus far and look forward to the rest!

In regards to the first season, what I've noticed is that the indoor scenes do have the grain (not horrible at all, but noticeable). However, the outdoor scenes are grain free. Anyone know why that is? Different cameras/film?

I'm guessing they used different film and/or cameras to better film the outdoor locations.
