The 4.0 quad mix could turn out to be even more involving than the 5.1 mix.

Maybe so, but it will have to be without my patronage. Similar situation as Riding With the King.

    I don't like the 5.1 mix.... can't wait.

Two guitars or guitar and synth? Many have mistaken Hammer's keyboard lines for guitar.

I think Jan Hammer was the first keyboard player, who played the Moog like a guitar. Sometimes it sounds cool, sometimes it sounds bad, see Jordan Rudess (Dream Theater)

  8. Desert island record for me. I may need this.

Didn't see the talk about the Hancock title. Thrust is a title I've been hoping to have on SACD for some time!

My error. It's guitar in rear left and synth in the rear right. Sounds like a guitar at times, that's for sure. Even when it's out there in it's own speaker.

    I'm in!

Content with my Atlantic CD, but am betting $29.95(?) Mr Hoffman can better it.

And multichannel? You better you bet.

  13. Looking forward to this release. There is no real good mastering of the original stereo mix available on a physical digital medium. The original CD is really bright, the remastered CD is loud, the stereo mix on the DVD-A has a nice tonality and great dynamics, but it is a remix and I like the original mix better.

I'm listening to the CD layer. I have never heard of Billy Cobham, but it's pretty good. Bernie Hancock is on deck!

    Major understatment :)
Just got my disc today, and the 4.0 quad mix decimates the 5.1 DVD-Audio disc. The 4.0 mix is immersive and uses every one of the 4 main speakers. It leaves the DVD-Audio disc sounding like "glorified" stereo.

You sure. I hear the synth in the left rear and guitar in the right rear for a majority of the 4.0 mix. And yes my rear speakers are wired and set-up correctly.

    OK by me. :)

I was under the mild impression that Steve did the Warner-related titles and Kevin did the Columbia-related titles.

That would be Herbie Hancock. Maybe you were thinking of Bernie Sanders ;).

I'm intrigued by this - I'm in. Merely picked up this record due to Tommy Bolin being involved with Deep Purple a couple years later. Guess my CD does sound a little bright now that I think about it, so I welcome a more immersive mix. :)
