Not sure of the validity, but I was listening to the Spectrum in my car one day and Mark Goodman indirectly quoted Beck as saying that the way music is marketed today albums no longer make sense and he just intends to release singles now. Maybe Beck albums are a thing of the past?

That would seriously suck.....but would also be weird considering his Grammy win for Morning Phase.

There was a rumor about it around the same time the Black Friday single "Dreams" was released.

He said that years ago. I think he's still an album guy, but also likes to drop 'summer jams' like timebomb and dreams. Whatever he's up to with this release, it's been a hoot following his Instagram feed!

MUTATIONS is, like, the forgotten album.
    And it's so good.
I prefer it to MORNING PHASE, a great album, too, and also to SEA CHANGE, which I think is overrated, personally speaking.

So long as it's not an 'album' of sheet music again...

I'm with you guys. Mutations was fantastic, one of Beck's best, but Sea Change and Morning Phase were disappointing to me, too drab. I'm hoping for something a little more high energy this time out.

Midnite Vultures and Mutations have been my favorites since they were released. Morning Phase and Sea Change are great but I play them less often.

Mutations is the Beck album I play most. "We Live Again " my favorite Beck song. Midnight Vultures has some good songs but I felt he sorta jumped the shark with thst one. I like Guero. Found Sea Change mostly tedious. Like his early stuff best...out of tune folk songs that sound like they were recorded on a boombox.

I'm with you except I think Morning Phase is overrated...for me, Sea Change is his best of the acoustic albums followed very closely by Mutations. Morning Phase is good but it hasn't grabbed me like the other two.

if a new album is coming I hope it is not as bland as the last one.

Yeah, I still don't get everyone going gaga over Morning Phase, and it even won a Grammy for best album.... I thought it was good but far from his best and it didn't really wow me (still hasn't).
