I just used a phrase on another forum that's probably going to cause some confusion. It occurred to me that I often quote movie lines in my daily life, and most people don't get them.

The one I used today: "You know I don't speak Mexican."

It comes from Clueless - and I tend to use it anytime someone speaks a phrase in another language. Most of the time, I only say it in my head. But sometimes. . .

What about you? It doesn't have to be something that causes blank looks. It could just be a movie line you quote regularly.

Good old CITY SLICKERS. I say that "day ain't over yet", too.

My brother and I are perfect at this kind of back and forth requiring a partner. If we get going on something from our younger years, like EMPIRE RECORDS or CAN'T BUY ME LOVE, it's kind of scary.

a few years ago we were at howe caverns in upstate new York. the lowest area of the caverns has an underground river which they take you out in canoe style boats. first thing I did was yell SHARK! shortly after we stopped midway in the water with another boat coming back stopped next to us. I turned to a guy in the next boat and asked if he had any grey poupon. I think about a third of the people there got it. it was pretty funny.

20 years ago, that grey poupon joke would have brought the house down - or gotten you beaten up. LOL

Office Space is a goldmine of quotes for everyday life.

I always have to mentally fill in "Is that your real name?"

Yep. When someone starts to state "facts" that are completely wrong, I start quoting some lines when Belushi is talking about the Germans bombing Pearl Harbor.

I do too when not on the same page as someone else.
