Just what he world needs, right?
It's up at Amazon ... I can't copy the link for some reason. Track listing and cover pic are there, too.

  11. Not much more than a rehash of Strictly Commercial.

Has about as much reason to exist as the Picks compilations from the '90s, and a tracklisting reminiscent of them, too.

  15. Yes, as far as justifying buying an album, who cared what tracks such and such picked?... Might as well do your own picks! I thought these releases were the very worst business/artistic decisions on the part of Gail Zappa. They overloaded an already intimidating catalogue and cheapened the legacy.

Someone who's new to Zappa probably does need this. Granted, it's just as easily accomplished as a Spotify playlist. But man, that catalog is daunting to a newbie. Strictly Commercial was my intro to Frank as a teenager, so this type of thing does serve a purpose, at least in its digital form.

Nice to know, with all the "Strictly.." bashing that goes on here, that it DID serve it's purpose, and made YOU a fan!!

Well, we've had Crux of the Biscuit and Zappa for President this year, two very good releases. And also a new Road Tapes, so maybe they can plan carefully an Uncle Meat re-release for 2017. I just hope they keep archival material coming every year.

The "Picks" releases had good liner notes, and I thought it was notable how Larry Lerlonde had a taste for Zappa's snide 80's comedy stuff while Jon Fishman was more into the 70's fusion material (and there were a few tracked they both picked) - but nothing I wanted to buy.

I'm still betting on holiday season 2016 for the Uncle Meat release (hoping for it, anyway).

It was exactly as the title described. I think it served it's purpose well. I also remember Strictly Genteel...perhaps a continuation of this series would've been the best way to compile FZ.

Although I thought it wasn't bad, the Strictly... series was a Ryko idea and I remember the ZFT not being happy with it.
