The horns in "Silly Love Songs" are a big hook as well.

Lucinda Williams "Changed the Locks" doesn't have a chorus, only a verse, and is held by the guitar riffs at the end of each verse.

The flute riff in Men at Work's Downunder overrides the chorus as the song's hook.

The horn counter-melody in the chorus of Don't Ask Me to Choose by Fine Young Cannibals does the same.

This may not meet the requirements of the OP, but....

The White Stripes' "Seven Nation Army"

It consists of three verse sections, each followed by a recurring guitar refrain that serves as a chorus. There is no sung chorus.

I posted this earlier but deleted it because I was unsure whether it meets the criteria, but now I see it does:

I don't know, I'd say the "and so it was...that later" vocal phrase is the hook.

Agreed - this is not what I'm looking for. Though the organ part makes up for a memorable hook, the song itself has definitely a vocal chorus, starting at the 'and so it was...' line. Doesn' t meet the criteria.

But many of the posts upthread do - Low rider, Cars, Seven nation army, Your latest trick, and even Tequila. The premise of this thread is looking for songs where the actual chorus is played by an instrument only, with no vocal additions. Keep them coming!

Are you sure about "Your Latest Trick"? There's a part that repeats fully one time and includes the title, and nearly repeats another time:

I don't know how it happened
It all took place so quick
But all I can do is hand it to you
    And your latest trick

:pineapple: Some people might disagree with me on this, but I think the two parts where it suddenly changes key, and Ronson takes over (at 1:11 and 1:54) are what sends this track through the roof:

Wow, theres hardly any songs that qualify. One I can think of: Devil Went Down to Georgia

The main hook of The Hollies "Jennifer Eccles" is a whistle (which is close to being played by an instrument).

Blondie's song Shayla qualifies, if you consider Debbie's singing "Whoa ah oh ah oh" as an instrumental passage. That is the chorus of the song.
