Here is the first teaser trailer that debuted tonight:

Javier Bardem is the villain in the upcoming sequel.

Orlando Bloom has returned to the franchise. I'm looking forward to this movie.

Wasn't the last one a flop, or am I remembering incorrectly? Are they banking on Bloom's return being a boon for the franchise? I just am not sure who was clamoring for another one of these films.

Does anybody really want more of these? The first was a lot of fun. I can't remember a single distinctive thing about any of the sequels.

Unless he's uncredited, he's not in this one.

Well, if you can call a worldwide billion dollar gross a flop.

It was pretty tired excuse for a film though.

The first Pirates film made about $650M (which is big but not ridiculously big), but was far more than anybody expected. Each of the next 3 films made about a billion dollars, plus untold booty in merchandising and tie-ins to the theme park rides. The problem for Disney is that each film keeps costing more and more money to make; On Stranger Tide cost a whopping $378 million -- one of the most costly Hollywood films in history -- but still made a billion. I'm kind of in awe that films this bad can cost this much.

I did enjoy the first one, but man, those are wacky movies. The plots make absolutely no sense, they look strange as hell, and the visual effects are way, way over the top to the point where all the images look like plastic video games, just weird and artificial. I don't deny there's an audience for these movies, but it sure the hell isn't me.

Is Gore Verbinski back in the directors chair for this one?
I assume since he was involved in making the SUPER-FLOP, "The Lone Ranger", he's been lying low.

Two directors: Joachim Ronning & Espen Sandberg. Got no idea what Mr. Verbinski is up to. Lone Ranger was a massive flop that killed quite a few careers at Disney.

Same here. Loved the first, got through the second but thought it was meh, couldn't wait for the third to end. Heard the fourth was even worse so I didn't bother. I have zero interest in this and am surprised Disney went ahead, though perhaps it still does stellar numbers overseas. That trailer told me nothing at all about the film. As is often the case these days.

    No Keira Knightley.
Damn, this girl has to build up her resume. In comparison Scarlet Johansson must have some agent ...she gets all the cool films to star ⭐️ in.

Keira married that musician and really slowed down her work load.

I'm a Depp fan (though I am starting to wonder why)... so I'll eventually see it but I don't expect much. I wish Burton would do one of these, or at least his set designers...
