What are your two ( 2 ) favorite CLINT EASTWOOD westerns?

Before anyone asks, The Beguiled (1971) doesn't count because it's not a western. It's a Gothic suspense film that takes place in the deep south, not it in the West, and during the Civil War.

Coogan's Bluff (1968) doesn't count because it's a modern crime film that takes place in New York City. Just because Clint plays a Sheriff from Arizona who drives a jeep briefly at the beginning doesn't make it a western.

I'm very fond of Rawhide. It was unlike any other western TV program. For awhile, anyway. It's my favorite of Clint's brief sojourn in the western genre, perhaps because he wasn't always the star of the episode. But I picked HANG 'EM HIGH and TWO MULES FOR SISTER SARA because they're both excellent, and traditional, American-made westerns.

When I was younger, I thought that High Plains Driver was great, but I watched it again recently and I didn't think it has held up well.

I still enjoy the Sergio Leone trilogy from time to time.

The Outlaw Josie Wales was an excellent film, I don't think any of the others top it.

I thought High Plains Drifter was one of the worst. The midget and painting the town red? Ugh.

I agree. My opinion has changed on that one since I saw it in the 70s. It's pretty bad.

Bronco Billy is not a western in any sense.

It's not The Unforgiven, folks, it's just Unforgiven. The Unforgiven is a 1960 John Huston western.

You're right, of course. What was I thinking. I know that. If the edit function were still turned on I'd go in and fix.

John Huston's The Unforgiven is vastly under-rated.

Has to be The Good, The Bad and The Ugly.
I find most of Leone's movies uneven affairs, veering wildly between high drama and crude humour; but here the combination of the fanatic Eli Wallach, the mysterious Lee van Cleef and the laconic Eastwood works fantastic. The photography is impeccable and the music is fittingly loud and dramatic.
