There's still a few I haven't seen yet (notably the new Jim Jarmusch or the new Scorsese) but I think I'm gonna go with 'The Handmaiden.' I honestly wasn't at all impressed with 'Stoker', but this was a huge return to form, up there with 'Oldboy' and 'Lady Vengeance.'

Close second goes to 'The Witch.'

It was a tough year for me, though. No Tarantino and no von Trier. :(

You're voting for a 2015 film that you saw next month?

My vote goes to The Revenant. Favorite movie to see with my daughter...Dr. Strange.

Worst movie...The Lobster. I would be boiling mad if it somehow clawed its way to the top on some awards show.

Tie between Zootopia and Hell or High Water. Zootopia continues Disney's CGI revival with one of the smartest films in their library with a clever take on prejudice revolving animal stereotypes. It's also a damn funny buddy cop flick to boot (or BUNNY cop flick). Hell or High Water is a fantastic western-heist film with an emotional grip that you don't see much in heist films and has top-notch performances by Chris Pine and Jeff Bridges.

I really can't wait for Manchester By The Sea. Not out until January 2017 in the UK.

The Witch deserves any and all art/costume/production/set design awards you could throw at it.

If you've seen Lonergan's You Can Count on Me (I didn't see Margaret), that gives you a pretty good idea what to expect. It's the kind of movie that manages to draw laughs from the audience despite its bleak outlook.

No, I haven't, but will take note. I urge you to see Margaret as soon as you can. The full version. It is a masterpiece.

For whatever reason, I don't recall hearing about Margaret before. But, like you, critic David Edelstein calls the full three-hour version a masterpiece, so I'm putting it on my viewing list.

Why are so many of you listing The Revenant as a 2016 film? Is that just because you didn't see it till this year?

Probably because the release date was 15 January 2016.

Where do you get that from? Rotten Tomatoes has the wide release date as December 25, 2015.

Release dates vary from country to country. For example, The Handmaiden, which 93curr cites in his opening post, is not released in the UK until February 2017, whereas it was released in the US on October 2016. The Revenant, however, had a release date of January 2016 in the US and the UK according to imdb.
