Old school - Goldfinger. Great story and acting and set pieces, doesn't seem dated.

New school - Casino Royale. Just a great film full stop, probably the only Bond film you could hold up a a truely great work of art.

Soft spot for The Spy Who Loved Me as it was one of the first films I saw at the cinema.

Many of the 70's and 80's ones are quite dreadful though. They play like low budget b movies, which they shouldn't do, like a Jason Statham or Van Dam movie.

    In this order:
    • Goldfinger
    • Dr. No
    • From Russia with Love
    • Thunderball
    • You Only Live Twice
    • OHMSS
    • All the others ...

    Love Bond films!

Every movie has a vote... except "Quantum of Solace"!

And it doesn't deserve a vote! I'm not sure if it's truly the worst of the Bonds, but it's damned close...

The action scenes are way the hell worse than in any other Bond film, Casino Royale (1967) included. But apart from that it's not so bad. I enjoy watching anything with Mathieu Amalric.

It's probably best to take it as an appendix to the previous film. It doesn't work independently.

A little harsh methinks; it's a flawed film, but it has some cracking action, nice locations, gorgeous cinematography, and is an effective (if somewhat unnecessary) coda to Casino Royale. Considering the circumstances it was created under, it's a testament to the talent in front of and behind the camera that it turned out as good as it did.

It's also a much, much better film than Spectre... which would give it's right arm for a final reel as good as QoS had.

A View to a Kill is easily the worst Bond movie to date... dull, uninspired, limp, with Roger Moore looking like an Oompa-Loompa... but it at least had one of the best ever Bond villains in Max Zorin.

"QoS" is a snoozer. The action lacks excitement and everything seems anonymous.

"View" is a bad film, but at least it "feels like" a Bond movie. I barely remember anything about "QoS" because it's so generic and dull...

It deserves more votes than "Die Another Day".

Different strokes for different folks and all that (I just watch a film as a normal audience member not as a professional film critic like yourself)... admittedly, I hated QoS when I first saw it - hated it - but after repeated viewings, it really grew on me and I'm willing to overlook it's flaws... it'll get a reappraisal in the near future just like the brilliant On Her Majesty's Secret Service has rightly received, mark my words... a very misunderstood film is QoS.

I remain open to the possibility I'll eventually warm up to "QoS", but through 3 viewings... nope!

It'll always bug me that it's a Bond film that tries really hard not to be a Bond film. What Bond movie names a character "Strawberry Fields" but hides that fact for the end credits???

    A self-loathing Bond film!

I have a large-ish coffee table Bond book that discusses OHMSS in some detail. The producers worked very hard to create an EPIC (their word) Bond film, even hiring a literary critic to polish up the script. They certainly succeeded in my opinion. I absolutely loved the movie when it came out in 1969 (I was 11) and first saw it and repeated viewings have not diminished my affection for this film. It was wonderful to be young when movies like this were around. I wish such special life experiences for everyone on this forum.

There's precedent: I don't think Kissy Suzuki was ever named onscreen either.

Wasn't her first name used at least? I can't recall.

In "QoS", they referred to the character as "Ms. Fields" but never actually indicated her first name was "Strawberry" until the credits. That still makes no damned sense to me!

She's "Kissy" in the credits (the surname is from the book and the film's publicity), but otherwise she's never named in the film itself.

"It might be useful to know your real name."

    "Fields. Just Fields."

It looks to me like embarassment over her name was going to be a character point, but that scene got cut (or maybe, given the production circumstances, never finished).

What I can't believe is the amount of votes for "Casino Royale". Daniel Craig is horrible as Bond and nothing can convince me otherwise. In fact, after this film, I have not watched or will watch another Bond movie until they can his a**.

OHMSS should be at least in third place , or equal to CR.

If it was a bust no framchise. Young and Connery set the tone and style for the series and agent films in general. Sean was great in the first one. Good combination of suave and ruthless. You've had your six! Bang, Bang as he slowly blows into the silencer.

Lots of people like him and he injected new life into a franchise that was dying on its feet and a parody of what it should have been. You are of course entitled to your view but the fact is he has been very good for the franchise.

    Casino Royal/Craig:
    As entertainment was excellent.
    And he was great in his first outing. But, I feel he didn't look the part as James Bond, i.e.;
    suave and sophisticated...not.
