Are there any comedy records that mean a lot to you or you rate highly and would hate to part with? For me it might be The Misty Mr. Wisty LP on Decca by Peter Cook, but looking back I seem to have had but didn't always keep many comedy and weird novelty items. I even gave away a Big Bambu LP by Cheech N' Chong with the giant rolling paper still in it! But I don't think I could part with the Napoleon the XIV 'They're Coming To Take Me Away" (with the reverse being the song backwards including the label text) single on Warners.

I miss having Lenny & The Squigtones and Father Guido Sarducci on vinyl a little but at least I kept rips to CD-R. I've also had various Bob Newhart and Smother's Brothers records pass through, but never really got into Lenny Bruce. I had and lost a Pat Harrington LP, will trade for a Jerry Colonna? Remember Nervous Norvus?

    Hamhead The Bear From Delaware

    Any:
Stan Freberg album, especially "Stan Freberg Presents The United States Of America, Vol. 1, The Early Years, And Vol. 2, The Middle Years." 2-CD set.
The Wild Humor of Rex Benson (on Laff). My dad owned it. It was so bad it was great. I memorised a bunch of his jokes and told them at school, the best one was "Q: what can a bird do but a man can't do, A: whistle though his pecker. The record is collectable today only for it's cover which had a topless woman lying on a rock.
Some of those albums on Fax were interesting like the Adam Magazine series like the Bert Henry and Terri O' Mason albums.

Nervous Norvous, a.k.a. 'Singing' Jimmy Drake. A cowboy flavored hipster.

As for me Jim Backus' Delicious is a must own.

This could be the antidote to that record...

It's real and it's not that bad actually.

Several, but the Firesign Theatre records on Columbia top the list.

About once a year I listen to my Steve Martin, Sam Kinison and Bobcat Goldthwait albums and still crack up.

Not much of a cheese shop is it....?

My brother got this out of library when I was around 11 or 12. I think I can still recite pretty much the whole album...

Albert Brooks' A Star is Bought is the funniest album ever recorded. Each track claims to be designed to be played on a different radio format.

Don't have any of these, but my father had them on vinyl and I can probably remember every routine from each album.

I grew up with Cosby's records - Wonderfulness, Revenge, Russell My Brother - they are absolutely brilliant examples of humorous story telling and funny as hell to this day. It's a shame the Cos turned out to be an 'alleged' pervert. This is one of those situations where history will decide whether the art can be appreciated separately from the unsavory proclivities of the artist. With some distance, perhaps.

Perhaps there isn't enough distance in this case...

    There's this 1969 Cosby "classic"...
with the track 'Spanish Fly', where he expounds on the hilarity of drugging a woman's drink.

    Oh, my sides...

My favorite Cosby record is 8:15/12:15 on the short lived Tetragrammaton label he co-owned.

Yeah this album was a big one for me.

My older brother had it and not only is it hilarious, but the idea of a three sided album just blew my mind.

That Was the Year That Was by Tom Lehrer. The first comedy record I ever owned, and still a favorite.

Here are some that have found in thrift shops:

Tom Lehrer - That Was The Year That Was (especially New Math!)
Allan Sherman - Allan In Wonderland
Bob Newhart - Masters (all the classics)
Tony Hancock - Side 1 The Blood Donor, Side 2 The Radio Ham

  20. Peter Ustinov, Grand Prix of Gibraltar. Spot on take of of the 50s European grand prix scene. One of the few comedy recordings I can keep coming back to.

There are a few Goon Show lps in my collection and a reminder of youthful days with an ear to sunday mornings kids programs, Wayne and Shusters Rinse(wash the blood of my Toga).

I think my grandfather still owned two records by the time he passed away in the late 80's, that migrated to my parents' collection: Beethoven's Fifth conducted by Leonard Bernstein, and An Evening Wasted with Tom Lehrer. So I think of him a bit when I hear both of those.
