Just saw the trailer for the Founder with Michael Keaton as Ray Kroc.

Looks very interesting how he managed to get the franchise going.

I did my grade eight speech on Ray Kroc back in '78.

Just saw this with my wife and loved it. Sadly, we were literally the only two people in the theater, so if you want to see it, you'll probably have to see it this week.

I heard about this a few months ago and wanted to see it. I'm glad you liked it. I'll have to check it out. :righton:

Sadly, it got dumped in the post-Christmas/pre-summer blockbuster period, because it is genuinely an Oscar worthy performance by Keaton. Watching the credits, it doesn't look like the McDonald's corporation was involved, but it did credit the heirs of the McDonald brothers. The filmmakers treated the product well, they'd have no objections on that basis, just that Kroc was (depending on your perspective) either a hard-nosed business man or a bit of a bastard.

I'm interested to see what they did in the movie, but I read the best primary two books and other materials over the years. It's a fascinating story, and to have Kroc's own version and a good outsider version is instructive. I'll see, and I guess I better see it soon. But, it's Hollywood.

I hadn't intended on seeing it because I already have three movies scheduled for Saturday. But now I may have to go for a fourth.

It may technically be "Hollywood" but it was made by the Weinstein Company, and filmed in Georgia, so it's pretty much an "Indie" film.

You sound like my wife Vickie. She saw 220 films in the theater last year. She got a MoviePass card, and plans to exceed that number this year.

I'm nowhere near that bad -- I doubt I see more than 30-35 movies a year. This is just an unusually strong week for me.

The oldest operating McDonald's restaurant is a drive-up hamburger stand at 10207 Lakewood Boulevard at Florence Avenue in Downey, California. It was the third McDonald's restaurant and opened on August 18, 1953.

Go by it all the time.

Shame they can't use Knopfler's song. "It's Kroc with a K, like Crocodile not spelled that way."

My grade 8 speech, back in 1978, was on Ray Kroc (my dad wrote for me). For that reason alone, I have to see it.

Great tune; one of my favourite songs from Knopfler's solo career.

I'll have to see this film as the trailer looked good and I really like Michael Keaton as an actor,
I'm still mad he didn't get the Oscar for "Birdman" as he really and truly deserved it. I think this new film is his first "starring" role since "Birdman". I'm sure it will be interesting.

They did have one of my all-time favorite songs - "Music On A Found Harmonium" by Penguin Cafe Orchestra - to illustrate the Speedee food preparation system.

I had to see it because my dad was a Ronald McDonald. He was offered a franchise for $60,000 back in the mid seventies.
