Believe it or not, I was actually watching the Mannix episode I dvr'd on MeTV as I saw this on my Google news page. :sigh:

I'll remember him as his early moniker Mike "Touch" Connors - always loved that nickname. :agree:

My dad used to call him "jelly brains", on account of the many times his character would get pistol-whipped unconscious (about once per episode). Peggy would always revive him with a fresh pot of coffee.

    Am I mis-remembering this being a Quinn-Martin Production?

Pretty sure it was produced by Bruce Geller – at least he had a hand in it.

We used to watch Mannix every week. I don't think I ever saw Mike again after Mannix ended.

Started a s a Desilu Production then Paramount.

    From the IMDB :

"Over the eight seasons of the series, Mannix was knocked unconscious 55 times and shot 17 times."

I bought the entire series on dvd and binge watched them a year or two ago. Love the show! I had never seen that many episodes when it originally aired, I seldom watched tv back then, too busy partying and listening to music. Now MeTV started airing the series a week or two ago and I'm watching it again!

Very sad news. Mannix is my all-time favorite show and Mike Connors made appearances in some major films where most people wouldn't instantly recognize him. RIP Mike, a true man of class.

Bob & Ray had a regular bit called "Blimmix", in which the title P.I. and the heavy would have a long discussion about the events of the episode, and eventually agree the only acceptable thing was for the heavy to knock Blimmix unconscious.

I had literally just mentioned in an email yesterday that I thought he was still in reasonably good health for a 91-year-old. At least he lived to a ripe old age and did not suffer a lingering, protracted decline before passing.

It was Desilu/Bruce Geller, created by Richard Levinson & Bill Link, but it did have a bit of that Quinn Martin feel (but then so did a lot of 1960s detective shows).

I really liked the main title of the show, which was done by the guys over at Modern Film Effects (who were down the hall from me in the early 1980s). The visuals and the Lalo Schifrin theme song really set up the show very well, and was cool as hell for 1967:

He actually returned as Mannix on an episode of Diagnosis Murder. It was a "part 2" of an episode that happened on Mannix and they had flashback scenes. Was a cool episode. "Hard Boiled Murder".

Never a big fan of this show, but I know that my parents watched it when I was young, as that theme by Lalo Schifrin is burned in my brain

"Mannix" loved that show when I was a kid...even had Buffalo Springfield on an episode (1967).
    Sixties TV was fun!

Another childhood TV icon gone. I know as a kid that this show was weekly viewing in my home. Wasn't it on the same night as Mary Tyler Moore? It's sad, as baby boomer I'm afraid we're just going to keep seeing more & more of these familiar faces from this period pass away. RIP.
