Not only one of the most underrated Motown songs but easily one of the greatest ever produced!

"Last One Out Is Brokenhearted" by the Temptations. So underrated that it sat unreleased until 1999. Heartbreaking vocal by Paul Williams:

Not your typical Motown sound, but I like it.

Always dug this tune, All The Love I've Got, flipside of the hit Playboy by The Marvelettes.

One of my absolute favorite records, from my favorite artist  That little chuckle in the first verse is so sexy.

I can't understand why this failed to chart on initial release; it's easily among the best of Wells' recordings.

I remember being stunned on first hearing this song on a syndicated Wolfman Jack show in 1979, "I'll Try Something New" by the Miracles:

This was technically a hit (it barely scraped up to #39) but it's definitely underrated. I prefer it to Shop Around or Tears of a Clown. Definitely ahead of its time; doesn't sound like Motown circa 1962.

Just listened to this because I remembered the song with the same title by Gene Chandler and now know that the Tempts had the original version. Awesome tune!

Exactly, it sounds really advanced for 1962. I went out and got a copy the moment I heard it.

I was going to post a video of Smokey Robinson & the Miracles' You Must Be Love" but the one on YouTube by Oldies Singer sounds horrid!

This has become, I think, my favorite Supremes recording. A Smokey song, it appeared for the first time on The Supremes 25th Anniversary three record set.

I've always liked Marvin Gaye's soulful version of "Loving You is Sweeter Than Ever." The song was originally a hit for the Four Tops in 1966, but I think I prefer Gaye's version from his "In the Groove" (later renamed "I Heard it Through the Grapevine") LP from 1968. The song was written by Ivy Jo Hunter and Stevie Wonder.

We're not too far off the holiday season, so I'll offer up Purple Snowflakes by Marvin Gaye. It really should be a Christmas standard.

So that's the one that Spyder Turner copied when he name-checked Smokey in his cover of Stand By Me!
