I would recommend moving back at least 11cm from the speaker.

Have you tried calibrating the hum balancer on both channels? That's what those are there for.

calibrating the hum balancer can't completely remove the hum only decrease it a little

I tried the NFB Setting in the amp.
if i set to 1 or 2 the hum still there
but if the NFB set to 3 or 4, the hum reduce greatly almost gone
is this NFB setting to 3 or 4 dangerous or is it ok

I have Harbeth M 40.1's. Is the LM 508 a good fit or was it lacking a bit of power? Also, does the LM 508 have any kind of balance control? My room is not symmetrical and I need balance control (volume L/R).

I'm currently using VAC PHI 200 with Aesthetix Calypso Signature.

    Thanks,
    Paul

No balance control on the 508.....sorry.

We spent a lot more time with the 96's then the Harbeths, so it would be hard to say for sure. But power wise, I think the 508 worked ok with them, but if you like to listen at higher volumes or to music with big swings top to bottom, you may want a bit more power.

I was lucky enough to get the 508 from Taylor and have been using it on both O/96 and Harbeth 40.1 speakers. I mostly bypass the preamp section of the 508ia and drive directly to the preamp in from my PSAudio DirectStream DAC that has volume and balance control. The results are outstanding on both speakers and volume levels are more than I would ever need.

Could someone tell me how to change the fuse in the 518? I'm curious about trying an after market fuse and I've no idea how to do this. Also what kind of fuse I should buy. Thanks for any help.

It's in the iec socket where you insert the power plug. The piece just slides out.

@Billion$Baby never opened this box, but this week I did! It's now sitting in my family room, getting a workout from 8pm to 3am as I stay up with our newborn twins.

The FedEx guy wasn't stoked about bringing it up my front steps.

The fit and finish of this unit is impeccable. I'm waiting until it breaks in to really comment on the sound, but my previous amp was 22w so the jump to 48w feels massive.

Great thread!! I'm new to the idea of tubes and high efficiency speakers, but I have been super impressed by what I have heard at my local dealer of late. I'm fairly well convinced now that I want the 219, having heard it on the big Gibbons and the O93's. I saw (but did not hear) the 508, but have heard the 518 there many times. To be honest, to my mind the 508 livery does it a disservice. It's impeccably finished, don't get me wrong, but it's now another black box. I'm sure it sounds great - but give me the ugly iron duckling 219 any day of the week.

Alas, my wallet has many suitors. And compromises must be made - I'm very likely to start my journey with the little Leben and a new concentric driver speaker from Opera called the Solo, which BLEW ME AWAY.

Some people prefer the 508 to the 219; real bass drive on the 508!

How would you compare the differences between the Leben CS600 and the LM 508ia?
