Pletnev made a number of excellent records as a pianist, including a CPE Bach album for DG and Rachmaninoff concertos for Virgin. This might be my favorite:
I envy you if you're discovering this music for the first time, David. Make sure to stick with Art Pepper et al., too!
CD from the March BBC Music Magazine CD. Including Mozart-Symphony #51. Symphony, K. 196+121 (Mozart) - Wikipedia
Received my set today and listened to disc 1: Haydn - String Quartets, Op.9/1; Op.9/3-4 - Festetics Quartet - Haydn: The Complete String Quartets Played on Period Instruments - 19 CDs, Arcana
I saw it there too around the same time! Didn't meet any of the dancers though! I love this recording. I have it on CD.
First listen to CD 2 from "Ultimate Chant" performed by Aurora Surgit, In Dulci Jubilo, Schola Hungarica and Nova Schola Gregoriana on Naxos.
80s CBS CD of Columbia Masterworks recordings. 'Firebird Suite' recorded 1/28/57, St. George Hotel, Brooklyn. Producer: John McClure. 'Petrushka' recorded 5/5/69, Philharmonic Hall, NYC. Producer: Richard Killough. 'Petrushka' was first issued with 'Firebird Suite' (which had been originally issued in 1958) in a 2-LP set. The 4th side was a discussion with Bernstein about 'Petrushka'.
According to the back cover this was recorded in March, 1955. A discography I found says 4/6/55. In any case the music was recorded in mono only in the Northrup Auditorium on the U. of Minnesota campus in Minneapolis. A single microphone was used, probably a Neumann U47. Performance & sound are impressive.
Just listened to "An English Ladymass" by Anonymous 4 on Harmonia Mundi. medieval chant and polyphony
Now on the turntable, "Plainchant & Polyphony from Medieval Germany" performed by Schola Antiqua led by R. John Blackley on Nonesuch.
Now on the turntable, record 6 from "The Flowering Of Renaissance Polyphony" performed by Pro Cantione Antiqua, London led by Bruno Turner on Archiv. Lasso & Palestrina
I think bluemooze is pretty much always in the mood for early music. I pretty much am as well. For those who like early music, Hyperion has all of their albums by The Cardinall's Musick 20% off download or CD. I bought a bunch of them and they are really good. 20% off The Cardinall's Musick - Hyperion Records - CDs, MP3 and Lossless downloads
Now on the turntable, "Stravinsky - Symphony In C/Symphony In Three Movements" performed by L'Orchestre De La Suisse Romande led by Charles Dutoit on London. (web image isn't exactly my album cover, but it's close)
Now on the turntable, "Szymanowski - Symphony No. 3 'Song of the Night'/Symphony No. 2" performed by The Detroit Symphony led by Antal Dorati on London.
Discogs images are very hit or miss on my computer. Even when I'm posting them, I usually can't see them anymore.
I've got to say that I really, really love piano in a jazz context, but I can't summon any interest in a classical context. So I offer you this:
