Pletnev made a number of excellent records as a pianist, including a CPE Bach album for DG and Rachmaninoff concertos for Virgin. This might be my favorite:

I envy you if you're discovering this music for the first time, David. Make sure to stick with Art Pepper et al., too!

I saw it there too around the same time! Didn't meet any of the dancers though!
I love this recording. I have it on CD.

80s CBS CD of Columbia Masterworks recordings. 'Firebird Suite' recorded 1/28/57, St. George Hotel, Brooklyn. Producer: John McClure. 'Petrushka' recorded 5/5/69, Philharmonic Hall, NYC. Producer: Richard Killough. 'Petrushka' was first issued with 'Firebird Suite' (which had been originally issued in 1958) in a 2-LP set. The 4th side was a discussion with Bernstein about 'Petrushka'.

That's a great album. The first from that box that you've posted that I own.

According to the back cover this was recorded in March, 1955. A discography I found says 4/6/55. In any case the music was recorded in mono only in the Northrup Auditorium on the U. of Minnesota campus in Minneapolis. A single microphone was used, probably a Neumann U47. Performance & sound are impressive.

That's a lot of medieval chant you're listening to Blue. You must really be in the mood.

I think bluemooze is pretty much always in the mood for early music. I pretty much am as well.

For those who like early music, Hyperion has all of their albums by The Cardinall's Musick 20% off download or CD. I bought a bunch of them and they are really good.

Ancient/early music is my first love with classical music. I just like it; don't know why. :targettiphat:

Discogs images are very hit or miss on my computer. Even when I'm posting them, I usually can't see them anymore.

I've got to say that I really, really love piano in a jazz context, but I can't summon any interest in a classical context. So I offer you this:
