I gave up on this show after about the fourth episode, I think...it just started getting silly IMO. I reckon Tom Clancy covered this kind of scenario much more effectively in his novel Executive Orders.

I'm still in... Maggie Q & Natascha McElhone are hot and for one hour a week mellow Jack Bauer is the POTUS.

Agree with you on the first two points, but Kiefer's character in this show is NOTHING like Jack Bauer, much to my chagrin. I said earlier in this thread this show would be better if his character was an ex-SEAL or something like that instead of some weak bureaucrat.

I think I stopped watching maybe 3 episodes or so before the mid-season break. I don't really have any intention to continue with it either. Too much weak network-TV writing.

And I agree with you in terms of 'ass-kicking-ness' but I find him to be Bauer-esque in terms of following his moral compass even if it cuts against proper policy/protocol/procedure.

I guess so, but it isn't making the show any more interesting.

She made me think of Angela Lansbury pulling strings in The Manchurian Candidate. But the VP seemed to have lots of chutzpah and presence of mind when he was on his own in his few hours as Pres.

I can't wait until somebody slaps the **** out of this smarmy ass. I'd like Richard Pryor to come into a scene and say, "you ain't sayin **** now, Mr. Big!" We need some moments like that in this show.

Way, way too much padding in this series -- there was 10 minutes of actual plot in the most recent episode. And it's about f'in' time Maggie Q talked to the White House. She couldn't have just used a disposable cellphone and called the guy and said, "hey, watch out for the VP -- he's a ringer!"?

What was that! The Manchurian Candidate's wife shot him?!

  13. I interpreted it as the wife killed her husband because he had been caught and she didn't want him to squeal on her.

And she's gonna get away, and hasn't a VP to play anymore.

Could Agent Wells have bungled more?

uh yeah, she got away alright, away to the grave, or did you miss that part.

The unbelievable factor went up 10-fold compared to last week's episode.

In no right mind would two secret service agents let the VP wander the cemetery alone at night with a homeless crazy dude even if the VP did say it was okay, being an old army buddy.

And the FBI agent should be sent back to the academy as a cadet.

Now that the VP and wife are dead, it is going to be interesting in figuring out who the major players are in the conspiracy. The two obvious ones were eliminated.

  17. As rjp said, the wife shot the VP and then the agent shot the wife, who was about to shoot her.

    uh, wrong again.

the wife shot the VP and then put the gun under her own chin and killed herself.

    was i watching a different show?

  19. Lol. Maybe they sent a different ending to each time zone. I'm probably wrong, it all happened so fast. At least we agree that the agent is the only one of the three still drawing breath.

I would bet the President spoke to the head of the Secret Service and tell him to allow the VP to have the meeting and let them know that the FBI would be surrounding the area with surveillance equipment and agents.

This was quite a House of Cards moment for the show.

Yes I missed that the wife of the VP was shot dead. By herself.

    Color me confused. :)

House of Cards is way in the stratosphere in terms of subtlety and nuance, but I'm enjoying Designated Survivor in a kind of sleazy "Scandal" kind of way.
