I have McIntosh 2105, C28 and MR78, love it! Can we not just upload a simple pic on this forum? I use a lot of forums and they all have the capability to just upload a photo from your desktop. Or am I missing the feature somehow? TIA
Have: JBL UREI 6260 Power Amp (low feedback) Interested: SAE X series Power Amps (Class A) I have come to believe that the late 80s /early 90s was the peak for Solid state amps. They seem to be going backwards now IMO. The JBL is tonally balanced with great lower midrange and upper bass power. JBL UREI The SAE X was one of the first modern Class A SS amps. Very hard to find and by all accounts difficult to repair these days. Still I would like to hear one. SAE X
James Bongiorno designed a number of the SAE amps and had a hand on the designs of a number of current production amps as well ... The Class A SAE amp looks very interesting ...
Aloha Very cute little Combo Pioneer C-21 +all handmade 2watt triode amp by Arthur Dick !!!! a Sibirian Tubespecialist he is just 3 miles away from my home And kind of genius in his field hahahaha he's works a lot with wwII tubes For example this amp use French made driver tubes former used for minesweeper Cheers Excellent Sound i must say in my ears
The classic Dynaco setup A couple McIntosh MI'75's Yamaha MX70's on top of Citation II's Two near and dear amplifiers MC240 and Fisher SA-100
When I read threads that ask "which piece of gear do you most regret selling", my Marantz 250 comes to mind..
Have: 1987 Sansui AU-X901 'Vintage' (SS). Really a very nice amp. Sounds great. I'm extremely happy with it and hope it lasts me forever. We'll try to make that happen! Would like: Sansui... 1. 2001 AU-111 G, (Tube) $3000+ 2. 1999 AU-111 Vintage, (Tube) $3000+ 3. one of a few very specific models of the Alpha Amps (SS), probably $3000 too, at least $2500. I'd have to dig into the specific models to make a decision. Plus another $1000+ for shipping and of the amps from Japan to USA. 4. Also... would 'really like', and NEED, a pair of Sansui L-100 'Reference' speaker stands. They do come up for sale from time to time on Yahoo Japan and they usually sell for fairly realistic prices, never abstract for a NM pair, but buying from Japan is a real pain in the a** and who knows what shipping charges would cost... much more than the speaker stands would cost for sure!! Someday someone will sell a pair on eBay USA. Been looking for 11 years now... no joy yet. Someday...
I use the Soundcraftsmen Pro-Contro-Four and Pro-EQ 44 as my pre with Crown PS400 and PS200 bi-amped. I also have the matching Soundcraftsmen Pro-Power-Four amp but prefer to use the Crowns.
These Crown PS series were from the early 1980's. The PS-400 was under consideration but I never bought it ...
That was the original AU-111 (1st edition was from 1964 - original model, won a really BIG Award during that time frame in 'stereo'.). There have been a few revisions of the original model, like 5 or 7. Then in 1999 they made the AU-111 'Vintage' (CD capable)(maybe a limited edition run?) and in 2001 they made the 'G' (CD & SACD capable), only made 200 amps of the 'G' if I remember correctly. All the owners of the 'G' and 'Vintage' just LOVE them!! I'd love to have either one... just cost more than I'm willing to pay. One other amp I'd love to have - forgot to mention: Sansui "The Tube", B209. Don't know a ton about it, but I've just heard that it sounds "divine", as an owner stated. A Sansui amp, made in the USA, and sold in Japan only. Go figure that one out ??? It was happening at the very end of the original Sansui reign. Very Expensive new, also $3000+ used - plus $1000 shipping from Japan... a serious Sansui 'collectors' amp. I think they only made 200 each of the B209 too.
The only Sansui gear I have ever owned was a cassette deck. Guess I have missed the boat big-time ...
Aloha Right a gorgeous piece of Japanese Audio History excellent sounding and the Design ist Kind of timeless very own black face whole symmetric hehehe that's a why it's called stereo in my eyes and ears a benchmark in the mid 60th last Century for Sound and kind of high level Japanese audio art Anyway good to have the 2color knob model from 1967 in the house Great machine the moma in ny should order one Cheers Wally Ps.got a lot eye-catching factors good for any listing or livingroom
Well into the '90s, too. Even the D-series was built up to just a couple of years ago. The pair of PS amps I use in my main system are the later ones without the plate over the signal LEDs. The older ones in the photo were my first ones and are kept as spares. My oldest D-series amp still in use I purchased new back in 1970. Another one I always wanted was a Crown Studio Reference-II. I got one a couple of years ago but I'm still waiting to deploy it on some less-efficient speakers. The car I drive to work every day is a 22-year-old BMW, but that doesn't mean it doesn't work perfectly!
I remember well being quite impressed with the Crown SA amp, though I did not feel I needed the kind of power back in the day ... IIRC, I also read that the fan is a bit noisy. I have never owned an amp that requires a fan for cooling ...
