The greatest lost album of the 60's is finally getting released.

In September of 1965 Dion and his backing group dubbed "The Wanderers" cut an album worth of songs with Tom Wilson as producer.

If Columbia had released it at the time Dion would surely received the accolades he deserved. He was at the forefront of the folk-rock explosion, yet nobody knew it because the majority of his work remained on the shelf.

Through assorted compilations we have been given bits and pieces of this material. Now, at long last, all the songs will be gathered under one roof and an album that can go toe-to-toe with "Rubber Soul", "Highway 61", and "Aftermath" will finally get it's comeuppance.

    BUY THIS ALBUM.

We must support this project to ensure that the execs get the message that we want MORE Dion. A box set of his complete Columbia recordings is a real possibility but only if we express interest through dollars and cents will the labels be willing to give this material a chance.

So even though we don't have a track list I'm assuming all these songs will be accounted for:

    1. I Can't Help But Wonder Where I'm Bound
    2. All I Want To Do Is Live My Life
    3. Two Ton Feather
    4. Baby I'm In The Mood For You
    5. Tomorrow Won't Bring The Rain
    6. Knowing I Won't Go Back There
    7. Time In My Heart For You
    8. Now
    9. You Move Me Babe
    10. My Love
    11. Wake Up Baby
    12.Farewell

These are the tracks I was under the impression were produced by Tom Wilson.

The title cut and "It's All Over Now Baby Blue" are included. I believe these were Robert Mersey productions.

What's the 15th track? The previously unheard "Bright Lights"?

This is MY McCartney archive release, so I'm not letting this thread die a quick death like everything else Dion around here. We'll make it to 50 pages, even if I have to talk to my damn self.

"Kickin' Child" was released as a single in May of 1965.

That runaway train of a track called "Spoonful" was on the flip. And that just HAS to be heard to be believed.

I think Dion had potentially not one but THREE lost albums from late '64 and '65. What Colubmia did to his career was criminal, though I'm sure strung-out Dion was at least partially to blame.

These are my three "fantasy" Dion albums that never got released:

    Dion – Drip Drop

    1. Drip Drop
    2. I'm Your Hoochie Coochie Man
    3. Sweet Papa Di
    4. Baby, Please Don't Go
    5. Don't Start Me Talkin'
    6. 900 Miles
    7. Johnny B. Goode
    8. Southern Train
    9. Chicago Blues
    10. The Road I'm On (Gloria)
    11. You Can’t Judge a Book by the Cover

    Dion – ‘Spoonful’ of Dion

    1. Spoonful
    2. The Seventh Son
    3. Too Much Monkey Business
    4. Devil Got My Woman
    5. Katie Mae
    6. I Just Want To Make Love To You
    7. Kickin' Child
    8. Drop Down Baby
    9. It's All Over Now, Baby Blue
    10. Down in the Bottom
    11. Dyin’ In The End

Dion & Wanderers – Wonder Where I’m Bound

    1. I Can't Help But Wonder Where I'm Bound
    2. All I Want To Do Is Live My Life
    3. Two Ton Feather
    4. Baby I'm In The Mood For You
    5. Tomorrow Won't Bring The Rain
    6. Knowing I Won't Go Back There
    7. Time In My Heart For You
    8. Now
    9. You Move Me Babe
    10. My Love
    11. Wake Up Baby
    12.Farewell

Any of these records would have laid the competition to waste.

I'm expect this to include the Tom Wilson produced version of "All I Want To Do Is Live My Life" (assuming it's usable). We've only heard the earlier Robert Mersey version on previous releases so far.

I knew that Dion tended to dismiss certain periods of his career due to bad feelings and troubling memories so I'm glad they were able to get him to "face the music" and remember the greatness of it.

Next challenge: force him to listen to "Dion and The Belmonts - Together Again" from 1967. That record is so damn good! Unfortunately, Dion hit bottom at right around the same time.

I probably should have included the track list on the story, but I'll post it here and have it added.

"Kickin' Child: The Lost Album: 1965": The track list:

    "Kickin' Child" (DiMucci-Buddy Lucas)
    "Now" (DiMucci-Mastrangelo)
    "My Love" (DiMucci)
"I Can't Help Wonder Where I'm Bound" (Tom Paxton)
    "Wake Up Baby" (DiMucci)
""Time In My Heart For You" (DiMucci)
"Tomorrow Won't Bring the Rain" (DiMucci-Mastrangelo)
"Baby, I'm in the Mood For You" (Bob Dylan)
    "Two Ton Feather" (DiMucci)
"Knowing I Won't Go Back There" (DiMucci)
    "Farewell" (Dylan)
"All I Want To Do Is Live My Life" (Mort Shuman)
    "You Move Me Babe" (DiMucci)
"It's All Over Now Baby Blue" (Dylan)
    "So Much Younger" (DiMucci)

    Agreed on all counts.

(Serious) personal issues aside, Dion was on fire in this period.

Is it definitely the Wilson version? Because it seems they have no problem using some Robert Mersey productions ("So Much Younger", "Baby Blue", "Kickin'").

I'm a big Dion fan. He has one of the great voices of all time. I will definitely be in on this one.
On another note, I do like his recent albums. They are all strong stuff.

I have to confess I kinda hate "So Much Younger". It's the only song of the bunch I am not a fan of . I'm glad it's at the very end as a sort of "bonus". It was cut in 1966 (and released in June '66 as b-side of "Two Ton Feather" (Mersey produced remake)) so it's sort of a separate entity anyway.

Awesome -- this is really long overdue and an instant purchase for me.

Is the only officially released Tom Wilson produced track NOT on the 'lost' album 'Two Ton Feather' (he produced that recording correct?). Does this track not stem from the sessions being used to include/exclude tracks for this new release?

Here's a link to a previous thread to discussed this material:

    Is there a Dion expert?

    Can't wait.

And digitally, this track could only be found as a bonus track on the Japanese release of "Road I'm On: A Retrospective"...

"Two Ton Feather" is there. I missed it when I put the track list up originally. But it's there.

There are two versions of "Two Ton Feather" (well, three counting the version on "Dion & The Belmonts - Together Again" under the title "Jump Back Baby"). One produced by Mersey, one by Wilson. Both have been previously released. One version can be found on the "Bronx Blues" comp the other on "The Road I'm On".

The album cover really needs to be in this thread:

Looks great, nice colors, but based on the contents I'm not sure this was entirely produced by Wilson, but that remains to be seen. I'm certainly not gonna nit-pick.

    Praying for a vinyl release!
