Shane, are you and Kevin cutting the 50th anniversary Sgt. Pepper's with Penny Lane and Strawberry Fields added?
No, I bet they're busy securing rights for 45 rpm masterings of "Dark Side of the Moon", "Thriller", "Kind of Blue", and the complete Diana Krall and Patricia Barber catalogs.
Buying the Everclears. I will put a request in for Becks Sea Change. Dare ya to best the mo-fi. I missed out on that one. Challenge!! (Im working on the Intervention guys egoes to get this done ) How about Toadies Rubberneck? I bet the masters have some serious bass. So many titles from the 90s that havent been touched I hope you guys will consider titles from that era more.
My list for albums from the 90s that would most likely sound improved with new mastering: Breeders- Last Splash Mazy Star- So Tonight That I Might See Whiskey Town- Faithless Street Suede-Suede Afghan Wigs-Gentlemen Portishead-Dummy Alice In Chains- Dirt Depeche Mode-Violator Belle And Sebastian- If Youre Feeling Sinister Flaming Lips-Soft Bulletin If I had to pick one, Id love for "Splash" to be remastered. Im hoping you guys will be different and are able to do some great 90s titles. And ones that havent been done to death.
Man that would be a dream. If ever a hooky 90s guitar album would benefit from audiophile treatment, 11 would be it. Its already a pretty open sounding album. I can only imagine what Kevin would be able to make it sound like.
Keeping in the early A&M catalog, besides the Flying Burrito Bros album, there are some titles in there that might be interesting reissues. A lot of the A&M titles in '69 and early 70s are Island Records albums for the USA, but these are long out of print on vinyl: SP 4274 - Supertramp - Supertramp [1970] SP 4277 - Extraction - Gary Wright [1970] SP 4295 - The Flying Burrito Bros. - Flying Burrito Bros. SP 4296 - Footprint - Gary Wright [1971] SP 4312 - Mick Abrahams - Mick Abrahams [1971] SP 4330 - Great Scott - Tom Scott [1972]
A coulle more: Michael Penn- March The Wallflowers- Bringing Down The Horses And one of my favorite albums: Delametri- Waking Hours. Remember this?:
Oh, yeah! I heard A Girl Like You on the radio the week it came out, and I drove straight to Tower records and bought the LP. It (and all my Smithereens vinyl) still gets played regularly.
No tapes missing, they have all been found in 2004. They also have been used for the 200gr audiophile pressing from 2009 or so: King Crimson And of course there is the stereo and surround remix by Steven Wilson.
I have the 200gr pressing. It's pretty damn good, but it was cut from a digital copy of the tape. I'd love to hear what Kevin could do with the actual master tape. In my experience, in just about every case, his cuts are the definitive version of the album.
Good list, especially the Supertramp and Gary Wright. I would add Supertramp's "Indeliby Stamped" to the list
So looking forward to The Flying Buritto Brothers - Gilded Palace of Sin release! I have been trying to track down a minty green label OG in the wild for some time.
Irma Thomas would be nice to have Wish Someone Would Care or Take A Look Neither have been reissued and originals cost an arm and a leg. I also second whoever suggested David Gray - White Ladder. Never been pressed. His master is a DAT but I'd still love to have it on vinyl.
I have it and it does sound great. I'm thought it mentioned they were "sourced from the original master tapes" but possibly not cut directly from tape but I could be wrong. I think they sound excellent regardless.
My great hope is Intervention gets to do the Concrete Blonde reissues. Shane stated in an email they have request out for these. I think Intervention could give us definitive versions of the first three albums. These are sadly overdue. A quality remaster and pressing of Bloodletting especially has me drooling.
Concrete Blonde is a great idea. One of all time favorite bands. Most of their CD's already sound good, but I'm sure they could be improved.
Yes the original master was located in 2003. In 2004 it was reissued using the masters. As far as licensing Fripp had too many problems with EG Records, and now owns and controls all things King Crimson. There's no way he will license to another label. Discipline Global Mobile (Fripp's label) is the only label KC will be on from now on.
This made me laugh like hell. Ever since I started this label my favorite question is "are you going to do the Beatles?" How about the Stones? The Who? What about U2?
A bunch of these have been done by other labels, but I would note that Chris Bellman has cut the Flaming Lips stuff and those are terrific.
Mo-Fi killed it with Sea Change, they did a spectacular job with that. I don't see the point of trying that one.
Can you give me more info on this box set? the only one I see is around $90. I love KOL. I asked for them and was told Sony Legacy was doing it. Guess they did!
