Well, it's $116 in Canadian dollars, which should make your wallet a bit happier given the current exchange rate. Still pretty steep, though, but it is tempting, even for me, with the Can$40 shipping charge and the customs charges and fee I'd have to pay.
Good morning everyone! According to my Deutsche Grammophon newsfeed on Facebook, it's Johann Sebastian Bach's B-day. (according to the old style calendar and on March 31st of the new)......but whatever it was, it's always nice to play Bach. On the TT....
Now, from this set: Vol.II, with Piano Sonatas 5-7, Op.10/1-3; 8, Op.13. Recorded at the same venue, in 2004.
I bought the 66 disc Vivaldi Edition that contains this smaller set. I'm slowly working my way through it. So far everything has been great.
Now playing: Dmitri Shostakovich – Quartet for Strings No.1 in C major Op.49 — Dirk Van de Velde (violin) , Dirk Van den Hauwe (violin), Marc Sonnaert (viola), Peter Devos (cello) – Rubio String Quartet (Brilliant Classics)
I don't have those recordings, but man, I love those Shostakovich Quartets. Hope you are enjoying them as much as I do.
Picked up a couple of CD's at the thrift for $.50 each yesterday. Both very nice performances and recordings, the recorded sound on the Carmina Burana is particularly good.
Good morning everyone! On the TT.... For those who haven't heard Andor Foldes play, here's a YT upload. So unfortunate that this beautiful recording has only just over 350 views on You Tube, while Gangnam Style has 2.79 billion..... Here's a short Bio on Wiki. He was very talented in my opinion. Does anyone else here on the thread know /like him and own his recordings? Andor Földes - Wikipedia
Morning! I am also listening to Rachmaninoff this morning, specifically the third concerto from this: Thanks for sharing that link to the Foldes Rach 2. My favorite recording of that work will come as no surprise to regulars of this thread: I love the ominous mood he creates at the beginning.
I don't think I have anything by him. I think I only once saw one of his recordings in the used shops that I frequent: Andors Foldes - Wizard of the Keyboard - Amazon.com Music
Who is the he, Richter or Foldes? I am guessing, BTW, that no one can answer my question re the age of the Foldes recording.
According to the internets, it was a 1954 recording. It's also on Spotify as part of the BNF collection, which I assume is the French National Library digitizing discs that have passed out of copyright in that country: Spotify
In fact, there appears to be a 2016 transfer by Deutsche Grammophon, also on Spotify. I might listen a bit later: Spotify Apparently this is disc 9 of the Mono Era box set: THE MONO ERA 1948 - 1957 - 51 CDs - Deutsche Grammophon Gesellschaft It never had a seperate release. Sign of the times?
That is what the BNF collection is. I see them a lot on Qobuz and I was curious what they are so did some searching. I haven't bought any yet.
Accoding to Discogs ...1954. My LP is a reissue. Sergei Rachmaninoff*, Andor Foldes, Berliner Philharmoniker, Leopold Ludwig - Konzert Für Klavier Und Orchester Nr. 2 C-moll Op. 18
A superb 2-disc set of all of Hoppstock's Bach recordings, made from 1979-2001. The sound varies, of course, but it's never less than good, and his playing is just stunning.
