I love Discogs. I have had a couple of small problems that were taken care of immediately by the sellers. I dig it!

I sell and buy a ton on discogs and I'd say the sellers I buy from make good 98% of the time. I understand mistakes happen, wrong listings or lost CDs, but the vast majority of orders go smoothly. It's a great resource for those who care about which pressings they're buying.

I've had pretty good luck on there. Pretty handy when you're looking for a specific vinyl pressing or CD mastering.

in my experience more and more sellers on there are grossly over rating their records.

    THIS !!!!

Used to be OK now I just can't trust them. The VG+ covers everything down to whatever will play. Got to the point of having to qustion the grading recently cos it's an expensive one way trip to Oz and it was downgraded.......to VG+. DON'T PUT NM ON IT IF IT'S NOT !!!
Exact pressings not being adhered to as much cos everyone with a record reckons it's worth gold now and as amateurs throws it on list that "looks the same"..

just following on from my previous post im currently listening to a newly bought vinyl of Dire Straits, it wa graded as very good plus. Side 2 is almost unlistenable right now with a hell of a lot of surface noise. It should be Good, possibly Good plus. Ill have to see what its like after a vacumm clean but yet again a purchase is vastly over graded.

Looks like plenty of problems with vinyl. Would CD purchases be less finicky? Including getting very specific versions.

If it's not clearly stated on the listing, then ask in advance. Unfortunately, some people are not fussy about listing CDs correctly.

Discogs is a fantastic resource. I use it daily. I don't list too much vinyl for sale (unless it's unplayed) as grading can be more subjective.
My main tips for anyone selling would be

    1) Package as well as you can - use loads of protection.
    2) Ship quickly - or at least communicate with the buyer if there's a delay. Nothing worse than silence.
    3) Leave feedback for the buyer as soon as they pay you.
    4) Insist on sending everything by registered mail.

In terms of incorrect listings, no. You should still confirm details if you are looking for a specific CD.

It may be different there, but the extra cost to send a registered package in or from the US ($12) is greater than the price of probably 80% of the items available for sale on Discogs.

6 months and 9 more buys later, not only am I happy, but a family member, as the recipient of a UK Let It Be gift, from a seller in Ireland, is beside herself with joy.
What more can I ask for ?

Like others have mentioned I got stung on a purchase, mainly because I didn't know it had been re-released with the same catalog number, always ask and confirm it's really the edition you're after. It's a great resource for both sellers and buyers and much better than other sites has been my experience after about a dozen purchases. Grading is a little better both here and on eBay though.

In Ireland, registering a package costs an extra €5. So to send one CD to Europe costs €4 standard or €9 registered.
I generally only sell OOP titles - i.e. €20 and upwards.
Selling low value items isn't worth it when you take Paypal fees, Discogs fees and time / effort into account.

A few days late, but I have had very, very few incorrect CD listings and the grading was almost always correct. If you're looking for a very specific version, always contact the seller first, but Discogs is intended to catalog even minor variations so I feel safest there. As for LPs, though, it seems sellers overgrade regularly. My one LP transaction went exceptionally smoothly but evidently that was just luck.

Just recieved a New Order record described as VG+ which according to Discogs should be "Defects should be more of a cosmetic nature, not effecting the actual playback as a whole. Record surfaces may show some signs of wear and may have slight scuffs or very light scratches that don't affect one's listening experiences."

i've recorded the first track just off my phone but before i put a complaint in i wanted to ask if im being too picky here... You can hear the recording Dropbox - Audio recording 2017-04-06 13-09-41.wav

To me this should be graded as Good which states... " A record in Good or Good Plus condition can be played through without skipping. But it will have significant surface noise"

If you can send the seller the link to the sound clip - should not be a problem for a return. Good Luck!
