Michael Nesmith’s “Infinite Tuesday” autobiography arrives April 18th

Yep and even expand on the whole Monkees/First National Band/solo theme over 2 CD's!

 

I saw a picture of Nez today on facebook with a vinyl copy of Infinite Tuesday on the desk in front of him. Does anyone have any idea how to order the vinyl version?

 

Though I[m pretty sure the vocal arrangement was Matthews' idea, since it smacks of Fairport Convention. I think that in the Eagles documentary, Frey admits they pinched it from him. (They also took his arrangement of "Ol 55" which was on his next album).

 

Answer to my own question: The vinyl version is available at Videoranch for $50

 

Anyone finish the book yet?

On the fence about ordering it would like some opinions.

I've gotten an uncorrected copy several weeks ago and half way through it. I think the Nicholson sensationalism in the Daily Rag in the U.K. is a little over blown. I'm glad so far he's discussing the time period when Countryside records was established as well as the beginnings of "The Prison". This is an area that's more interesting to me than the Monkees years. Interesting about this failed marriage 1st marriage. Good read so far.

Listening to the CD right now. Different Drum, Joanne, Silver Moon, and Shelly's sound absolutely fantastic - remarkably clear.

 

I got the download from itunes and was amazed at how good Joanne and Silver Moon sounded. Wonder how they managed that? Better than anything that's been released thus far.

Listen to what he was doing between 1970 and 1973. I'm not as fond of the Pacific Arts era stuff, but his RCA albums are really good.

The INFINITE TUESDAY CD is a nice, if brief, introduction for newbies interested in Michael Nesmith's music. That first track (as "Michael Blessing" -- jeezus), though, blows chunks.

 

Part of the problem is that, for whatever reason, the Spotify version is missing three key songs: Different Drum, Joanne, and Some Of Shelly's Blues. So, wiseblood heard a really weirdly skewed version of the CD (Silver Moon is the only RCA track on Spotify at all).

 

Yeah, I too thought that $50 was a bit outrageous for a single album, signed, or not. It's the same with the CD, which will run you $30 at his Videoranch website, while it can be had for half that (or a third, I only paid $9.97 for it at Bull Moose) at most retailers. I know it's pretty much standard practice to charge more for an autographed copy, but really, that's more than I'd care to pay. (If you feel differently, good on you, and have at it.)

Plus, the vinyl version also has five less tracks than the CD. So that was another negative against it, and why I choose the CD, instead. If I could have picked up a vinyl copy for around $20, I may still have gone that route, but so far, it looks like its only available through his website at the $50 price.

Many of his other 1965 recordings are so much better!!

 

I'm not proud of myself, but I ordered the vinyl. The $9.50 shipping (cheapest option) didn't help. I guess it's better than being addicted to meth, but that's not much consolation. Seems like this coulda/shoulda been a RSD release. A missed opportunity IMO.

 

Simply put: He's a talented guy...

Do I like everything he's ever done? No. But the same can be said for *everybody* I listen to... There's not a single artist/act whose catalog doesn't have a few duds in it...

 

Nesmith's early solo work is top notch.
The first two albums are superb.
