Jethro Tull - Bursting Out - not the greatest mix, but the band and especially Martin Barre were performing at an incredible level.

Various Artists - Mar Y Sol Pop Festival - recommended for one of the greatest guitar performances ever. Mahavishnu Orchestra playing "The Noonward Race", 13:20 of insane musicianship. One of my favorite live tracks.

Edit: Almost forgot another vote for Zappa: Roxy and Elsewhere. I fell in love with Ruth Underwood listening to this LP........

 

Those Wet Willie live albums are great. They sort of reminded me of a southern version of the J Geils Band.

Both highly recommended for the adventuresome.

 

Damn can't believe this one's not come up. The warmth of Still in Love With You. And a tuneful guitar solo that is part of the song not on top of it.

Maybe I missed it, but so far no mention of a very popular live album from the early 70's that resurrected the group's popularity and generated a future market for rock group's performing with symphony orchestras that continues to this day! I'm referring to Procol Harem Live with the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra. Recorded in August of '71 it reached #5 on the charts when released in '72 to become Procol's biggest selling album. Conquistador became a hit single.

Led by founder Gary Brooker, by mid-'71 the group had been on the verge of breaking up following the departure of guitarist Robin Trower, but even with personnel changes ...including interim fill-in guitarist Dave Ball who'd leave after about a year to form a heavier group with his brother... this line-up's live performance would insure the group's survival and legacy. Without reservations, this has to be considered one of the most successful live albums of the 70's.

Bruce Springsteen has archival downloads. Upper Darby PA 12/31/75 and Cleveland OH 8/9/78 are part of that
