This morning the 2-Cd version of Live at Minton's by Eddie "Lockjaw" Davis and the Johnny Griffin Quintet. Absolutely cookin' session with covers of a bunch of Thelonious material and other good stuff. @rockinlazys and a friend from tour both separately made me aware of that album a while back within a day or two of each other, which I took as a sign that the universe might be at least slightly less chaotic than the curren state of my CD collection organization, and also - much more importantly- that I needed this music in my life. Which I very clearly did.

Our biggest artist of all time. He broke Springsteen's record for biggest crowds on Ullevi stadium in Göteborg. Great live artist, lousy singer :shh:

My first listen, believe it or not. I am not a musician or musical theory person, so I'm sure much of it is lost on me, but I've at least listened to enough Zappa/Crimson/Can/etc. to be able to enjoy the dissonance and resolution as well as the shifting/interlocking time signatures. The vocals are especially good with all the counterpoints.

One reason I never got around to the album was the American cover, which made me think it would be too robotic and harsh. The UK cover is far more fitting. The music always has an organic flow no matter what weirdness is going on.

Yesterday did my annual listen to Dylan's Saved, Slow Train Coming and Shot of Love. Think I mentioned earlier weekend listen to Eddie Lockjaw Davis and Johnny Griffin's Live at Minton's, also played the new Spoon album (they are going in a new direction; it's creative and good although I liked their last one better, at least on first impression), and the Beatles Hey Jude, which has been superseded by the Past Masters sets, but is fun to spin on vinyl. We played it on 4/15 since my wife had noted that two different songs on it had been recorded on that date.
