The FTD is a required purchase for fans of the song, because it has multiple takes and almost all of them have slightly different arrangements. I still can't decide which one I like best!

 

King Creole but then I agree

 

King Creole feels like a great studio album.
G.I. Blues is a very pleasant and quality soundtrack.
Blue Hawaii is like a concept album.

I was thinking in terms of the 1960's era soundtracks. The 1950's era soundtracks are a different story entirely, containing some of his greatest musical triumphs.

 

The Kissin Cousins LP is well recorded and I like the guitar work. Tender Feeling is a good song.

 

Glad to see that I would've put 5 of those 7 on my own list as it is.

One of the things that keeps me coming back is that the musicianship on these recordings is just awesome. Half the time I'm ignoring the song and just appreciating the performances!

Yes! One of his best rockers! Have you heard any of the alternate versions on the FTD release of Kid Galahad? I prefer one of them to the official - it's got a different style to it and is just as good.

 

Slight as it is, I really enjoy the title track (the first version).

 

I think several very decent more pop-oriented Elvis albums could be assembled from the Soundtrack years. It's mostly a matter of getting rid of the garbage...."Barefoot Ballad", "Old McDonald", "He's Your Uncle, Not Your Dad", "Ito Eats", and the absolute bottom, "Queenie Wahini's Papaya". All the masters for these truly need to be destroyed. They're more about Parker's friendships with the Hollywood dreck-slingers than they are about Elvis.

 

Can't forget the golden classic "Yoga Is As Yoga Does"!!!!

Double Trouble (if you get rid of Old MacDonald and I Love Only One Girl)
Clambake (if you get rid of all the soundtrack songs except for the "Girl I Never Loved")

The ones I didn't mention are the ones I don't like much at all. I can't figure out the love for "Blue Hawaii." "GI Blues" is just as bad. The less said about the ones I didn't mention the better.

 

GI Blues has enough redeeming tracks that I give it a spin every now and then but I'm with you on Blue Hawaii - except for 'Can't Help Falling In Love' I just can't understand the relative-to-other-soundtracks praise it gets.

I really enjoy the FTD releases. I think Ernst did a wonderful job in placing the original albums with the alternate takes. I hope they find the stereo versions of the Follow That Dream soundtrack. Angel sounds great in stereo.

 

Lovely song. It's actually based on an old song called "Shenandoah." Many of us heard "Tender Feeling" for the first time via the Burning Love And Hits From His Movies Camden LP.

 

Little Egypt from Roustabout would've made a good rock n roll single from EP in 1964. Maybe with Big Love Big Heartache on the flip.

 

Maybe One Track Heart could have made a good flip side to Little Egypt. I always liked There's A Brand New Day On The Horizon also.

 

Absolutely. We're fortunate that the folks who put together the '68 Comeback Special decided to resurrect the song. Elvis's remake is even nastier and more lascivious than the original!

 

Guess Im a weirdo too. I like to listen to quite a bit of the soundtracks. Blue Hawaii, GI Blues.. fun stuff with Elvis singing better than ever. And I think that is really why people like the more "filler" songs. 1) His voice is so good on some of them 2)its fun 3) they are like finding little lost songs of Elvis, because no one listens to them.

I love - G.I. Blues

 

They Remind Me Too Much Of You from It Happened at the World's Fair is one of his best ballads. Nice scene in the film too. I'm also a big fan of One Broken Heart For Sale, written by Blackwell / Scott. Both songs made an incredible single in 1963.
