And even he lost me when he had Eddie Van Halen at #70 on his all-time greatest guitarists list.

In all honesty though, RS politics drove me away as a subscriber back in the 90's.

    :D

Personal taste and everything, I get that, but seriously. Two spots ahead of Joni Mitchell? Cobain and Jack White in the top 20? Iommi (1 spot, 86) and Rhoads (2 spots, 85) ahead of Joan Jett (87)?

In fairness, he did show some love to some players who deserved it and rarely get it.

I know we're not supposed to get political here at SH, but I always felt that PJ O'Rourke was a good counterweight to the left-leaning writers for RS, especially in the 90's

I dunno. Uncut and Mojo seem to be still crammed full of fun. Or are they struggling?

Now if they could only ditch their stupid lists that everyone takes so seriously.

They are pretty good...if you can get past Blur being called the greatest band ever. I'll say this for the English rags, they're patriotic.

the ***** review for the next U2 album is probably already written with blank spaces left open to insert random song titles.

Yes. But he's been gone from RS for over 15 years and they never replaced him with someone like minded. If you balance things out, I'm good with it, but they abandoned any pretense of balance long ago.

Actually...no album reviews would be better than the ones they've published for the last 25 years. What a crap rag.

I got a job at RS in 1995. During my interview I got to ask all the department heads a question.

My question for David Fricke was: "Have you ever not loved a Record you were asked to review?".
