I've read many times on this forum, that some songs are cheesy. is it always negative or are there some way of making a good cheesy song???

If I can pretty much guess how a song is going to be played before I hear it, it's cheesy.

Now don't get me wrong, because I actually enjoy cheesy tunes, but here is a good example:

I loved him on Starsky & Hutch, though.

It's a track that triggers this kind of reaction.

Cheesy is relative, I suppose. But I define it as a song that's written "down" to the audience, where lyrics are so cliche you can telegraph them from the git-go. Easy choices, such as rhyming "changin'" with "re-arrangin'". Where the artist is clearly doing the song to be liked, as opposed to expressing his own unique imagination or talent, or trying to stretch his own boundaries as a writer and performer.

You see this a lot with country songs, where the point-of-view is a sly "Yeh, you know what I'm talkin' about...", and the deep twang with a lotta "ya'al"'s comes out of the mouth of some poser who hasn't been a good ol' boy since he took his merchandising company public.

    Perry Como.

When Muskrat Love is enjoyed unironically. If you enjoy it ironically, you're good to go.

I get it's supposed to be sad but I always find myself laughing during it.

I'm guessing you're not a Kacey fan, I'd say it's done from a love, a knowing smile and cheesy as hell.

  15. Sometimes cheese is bad. Sometimes it's good. And occasionally it's G-R-E-A-T!!!

Goofy and ridiculous if it's good cheese.
Tacky and cringeworthy if it's bad cheese.

Years ago, my ex hated the organ.....so I was out of luck with Doors/Purple. It wasn't because she thought it was cheesy, but it reminded her of the hellish days in church.

    Don't forget Tommy.....extra cheese.

Cheesy is context-dependent. You'd do better to as an individual who calls a particular track "cheesy" why he does so rather than trying to ask people to create a one size fits all example.

Is this some kind of pun?
If your ex hated the organ, I can see why she's your ex. Nudge nudge wink wink say no more.

    Yes, I'm 12. Sometimes.
