I'm talking about (a) an album released long ago, not recently, and (b) you recently listened to it in its entirety for the first time. E.g., just this past week, I listened to two old LPs that I'd long been aware of but had never listened to all the way through - Talking Head's Remain In Light and John Cougar's American Fool. Of course I wasn't totally ignorant about them, in their own ways, Cougar's commercially, Talking Head's critically, they are famous records. For 35 years I've listened to the big singles from the Cougar record and "Once in a Lifetime" from the TH record. We've all heard those songs hundreds of times over the years as they are ubiquitous. But I'd never heard the whole albums, even though I've owned American Fool since 1982! I just bought it for the singles, LOL. So, anyone else with a recent experience, playing an old album, an album that has been around for years, but you just never got around to listening entirely through?
being born in 1979, I'm still learning some classic albums I never played until recently. I heard "The Velvet Underground And Nico" the first time only 2-3 years ago. I still have yet to experience "Quadrophenia" though if it's really better than "Tommy" and "Who's Next", then I know I'm in for a treat.
A fellow jazz enthusiast lent me Bill Evan's "How My Heart Sings" knowing I was a fan of Bill's playing. Sublime. I have my own copy now.

Well, I've listened to a lot of The Who greatest hits albums on cd, but just got the record Who's next... from start to finish excellent album, sonically and it flows good. Manage to get a nice condition original!
Steve Miller Band - Fly Like an Eagle. Got an old Arcade CD (I had no idea that particular label released these things) that sounds very nice... Really liking it a lot. Will get more Miller soon.
I just recently succumbed to the Silver Apples' legacy from 1968. I love a bunch of records that have been linked to them over the years, they are even name-checked (I assume) by one of my favorite records ever in Laika's 1995 debut Silver Apples of the Moon, but you know how it goes, always something new to grab your attention. Gotta say, I still love Laika a lot more, never heard anything before like it at the time, but this Silver Apples record is some pretty far out stuff for 1968.
IMO, Quad is not as good as Who's Next (what is?) but it squeaks past Tommy. Really good album, hope you listen to it soon.

Wishbone Ash - Argus. I've been aware of them and this album since it came out, but somehow managed to go almost 45 years without hearing it, or even a single song from it. My loss.
