    It's an old song dating from 1976 (that's why it's good ;)).

That's a re-recording of the track that dates back to the mid-1970s.
It was first performed live in 1992.

Le Noise is his last good album; I've the others, but Le Noise is the one I return to most.

Weird. Wonder what's up. Neil Young, volume dealer of WTF.

    A little history:

Behind The Lyric: Neil Young, "Hitchhiker" « American Songwriter

Funny story, turns out Le Noise is *not* in fact his last good album. But you've got a right to be wrong so everything is cool.

You're right, his last good one would be Broken Arrow (1996). The rest are basically for old rusties who hang out at Thrasher's Wheat and constantly drop quotes from Shakey.

Let's please not have another thread bashing late-period Neil Young.

maybe the acoustic version of powderfinger? or deep forbidden lake? or could this be an upcoming teaser single for the box set? so many possibilities!!

Apparently, it's him and Briggs out of their minds in the studio.

Seems to be the first real evidence of an 'Archives II' period archive release.

Apparently it's an acoustic session produced by David Briggs. Possibly carved up for use on 'Rust Never Sleeps' and other releases.

I've given up hope of anything surfacing, but this is a real piece of artwork.

A quote that apparently goes with it is:

"One night, Mr. Briggs and I jumped into Stretch and headed for his favorite place, Indigo Ranch Studios. I spent the night there with David and recorded nine solo acoustic songs, completing a tape I called 'Hitchhiker'. It was a complete piece, although I was pretty stony on it, and you can hear it in my performances. Dean Stockwell, my friend and a great actor who I later worked with on 'Human Highway' as a co-director, was with us that night, sitting in the room with me as I laid down all of the songs in a row, pausing only for weed, beer, or cocaine. Briggs was in the control room, mixing live on his favorite console." ~ Neil Young

'Deep Forbidden Lake' is a 'Homegrown' era track.

I'd think it's a fair chunk of the first side of 'Rust Never Sleeps' and other stuff.

    Awesome!

Will we also see Chrome Dreams, Homegrown and Oceanside-Countryside? Can't forget the Odeon-Budokan live recording as well.
