    Alex,
I wholeheartedly suggest Treme: Life after Hurricane Katrina as the residents of New Orleans try to rebuild their lives, their homes, and their unique culture in the aftermath of one of the worst natural disasters in the USA.

So far I’ve seen it four times, and very similar to “The Wire” it gets better with every cycle of watching. It builds the feeling to know each and every of the many characters very close in person. A really excellent show.

Wholeheartedly 2nd the vote for Treme. Especially here, where music is celebrated. The music is a living, breathing character in Treme, much as it is in real life! I can't think of ANY show that has successfully incorporated music as well as Treme! The 1st season is especially superior, primarily due to the performance of John Goodman, but the whole cast shines. I've watched the entire series multiple times but just talking about it makes me want to watch it again!

    Charles,
    very, very true.

One of the most touching moments in “Treme”: A farewell from fellow musicians to Harley (played by Steve Earle) who was shot in a public street of New Orleans.

“Darling, life is short. Let’s play a song.”

I know there are a lot of great series produced in the U.S., but I just wanted to mentioned Occupied, which only has one series (9-10 episodes) so far. It was produced in Norway (most expensive series ever), and it is about the Russian occupation of Norway (with European Union's permission) after Norway has stopped all oil and gas production in the North Sea. A second season is set to air in the fall 2017.

I think this series is very well done. It gives us in the U.S. a glimpse of this beautiful Scandinavian country and its culture. Lots of political intrigue to boot.

  11. Just did a little search yesterday wondering the same thing about Deadwood. Couldn't find anything very recent. :(

I can't praise the Wire highly enough. David Simon should have gotten a Pulitzer and an Emmy, and a MacArthur Genius grant. Ambitious to the point of audacious, and yet in 65 (or so) episodes, it never missed a step. No one has ever looked as deeply and yet as comprehensively, realtiscally yet compassionatley at modern urban America. Frankly its scope and accomplishment makes the Godfather look like kindergarten.

Afterwards you can cool down with Treme

  17. Mindhunter on Netflix. At first it will not grab you but after episode three it will become riveting.

Star Trek Discovery if you are willing to go to CBS all access

    Manhunt:The Unabomber is also excellent

    Stranger Things Season 2

1st 2 seasons of Luther, starring Idris Elba and Ruth Wilson, is some of the best, procedural police drama ever done, on either side of the pond! Really outstanding, Elba's work totally dwarfs anything he ever did on the Wire! Available on Netflix!

And as always, I'll always attempt to get people into the incredible Italian series; Gomorrah! Also on Netflix.

Oz was a great show, could be hard to watch at times due to its subject matter. Had a killer ensemble of a cast.
