    Thanks, LL

I've always had my doubts that Eli was dedicated, now I'll see for sure.

Interesting about New Discovery--someone here years ago posted interview with someone a Verve who said that the mono tapes were destroyed.
I'm betting it's a needledrop. Maybe even the one from a well known internet nd person did awhile ago.

I had a mono copy and I could not tell any differences at all (Eli).
As far as the Verve album, surely there were copies made of the mono master for other countries.

Really? I never knew (or saw) a mono outside the US. Certainly plausible, I jut never saw one.

I'm sure the UK had a mono release of the first album, I had a US promo of Eli in mono and studied it for hours trying to pick up any differences, alas no.

good to hear. I'm not crazy.
The only 'maybe' was the louder bass on Luckie, but when I listen to the rest of the song, it's a no.
I really thought about paying the big $ for a US promo once upon a time, but I want a different mix, not just the 'thrill' of owning a white label.

not worth paying a lot for IMO but it is one of the rarer Laura items....what I would be interested in is a quad mix of New York Tendaberry:)
...but as far as this set, the first album in true mono would be worth the price of admission.

I gave a cdr of the mono to Suzanne Vega this year. Her eyes got wide, big smile. Her guitarist said "Mono? You're kidding" and snatched it from Suzanne's hand.

This will be mastered by Vic Anesini. I hope its well mastered and not like the current Sony remasters. I wish AF had done more Laura Nyro.

i believe i read on here from our host that he couldn't stand the shrieking in her voice when he was mastering eli for AF (one of the few times i have questioned his judgement).

I have to question that as I've seen a bit of love from Steve for Laura...that must have been someone responding in a thread about Laura.

True story: in 1981, I was living in an apartment with thin walls. I'd put New York Tendaberry on the phonograph in my upstairs bedroom. When Laura would get to shrieking, the 2 girls in the next apartment over would shriek back thru the thin walls! Pretty funny... :D

I almost never comment on sound quality, but I have the current remaster of Eli and while I love the music there's something about the sound that I find irritating. I wonder if that's the mastering or the original tapes? Maybe it's the "shrieking" as mentioned on some other posts. I'm not a big mono guy but if I thought this would be easier on the ears I might have to get this.

yes, if ever an album has had historically bad mastering it's this one, Steve's is a big improvement but it is a 50 year old recording and technology was simply not up to Laura's challenges:) NYT suffers the same problem, Christmas does not.

  19. The 1966 mono mix of the first album, wow! I thought these tapes were long lost. This is amazing news. I've heard Eli in stereo and in quad, but not in mono so that will be a new experience for me.

Hi everybody, Joe Marchese here. I'm so thrilled to see so much excitement here. As I put this release together for Real Gone Music and Second Disc Records, I can confirm that these albums are most certainly NOT needledrops. This release has been sourced 100% from tape, and beautifully remastered by Vic Anesini.

The MTAND masters were assuredly NOT lost, and in fact, having held the original mono tapes in my hands as we discovered them is one of the great thrills of my professional life. We're incredibly proud of this release, and I hope you'll all be as pleased as we are to celebrate Laura's remarkable legacy on the 50th anniversary of her debut album. Stay tuned for our official press release soon at realgonemusic.com and theseconddisc.com. Thanks for your interest!
