"2nd hand appropriated content" - Are they trolling? They can't lack that much self-awareness, can they?

  4. This reminds me of the time back in the 1980s that the US government (among others) announced that TCP/IP was dead and all future communications projects would be based on the Open Systems Interconnection (OSI) standard.

FLAC has pretty much become the lossless equivalent of MP3. It's universally supported, wherever lossless is considered, hardware, software and downloads. But it won't replace MP3, because it serves a different purpose. My whole large digital library is in FLAC, but the substantial amount of albums I carry around on my phone is in MP3, otherwise it wouldn't be nearly as substantial. There's a place for both.

Nobody seems to know how to write proper English anymore. I find it very disheartening.

MPs are dead TO its creators because they can no longer get licensing revenue. Hardly makes them dead to everyone else.

They are like Fredo to Michael after Havana. But, you know, before he made Fredo dead to everyone else too.

That's my approach as well. And if someone wants a lossy codec, MP3 (@ 320) remains the safest bet.

The whole idea of downloading and having to store your own digital music is rapidly becoming obsolete thanks to streaming.

It still amazes me people take the time to convert to mp3 from FLAC, etc. What a waste of time. I use Muzecast and stream everything from my home computer to my phone. Works like a charm. I get people don't have huge data plans or have spotty internet, but I still see these comments all the time. Rip once to FLAC, stream to my phone as MP3 or FLAC by choosing a setting. I haven't loaded a single song on my phone in years.

It doesn't take as much time as you think - we're not talking about recoding in real-time, it's all scripted and runs as fast as your PC's CPU allows.

I still carry a legacy DAP on me. Great battery life, good sound and no data plan required.

I'm already feeling nostalgic for that classic mp3 sound.

Since I started converting my music to AAC I didn't look back to MP3 but it's not dead. Amazon still sells their digital files as MP3's, and it's still a universal format, unlike AAC and FLAC, which some devices/softwares can't play.

Like CD once patents run out and no money to be made the format declines. In case of CD I'm sure the technical standards have been infringed to detriment of sound quality. Of course difficult to make MP3 worse even if that was desirable for some.

It's ok, I'm going to develop a filter which adds classic MP3 artifacts to your boring lossless files.

Although that's generally what I choose when ripping to a lossy format, I follow this guide when ripping/converting to a lossy format (all are CBR, I'm not worried about the extra file size):
    • Music: 320kbps
    • Full Cast Audiobooks/Audio Plays: 320kbps
    • When sound quality is important: 320kbps
    • Single-Reader Audiobooks (when only one person is speaking at a time): 192kbps or 256kbps

This may seem silly, but why not just convert the lossless file to an MP3 (do it at 128kbps CBR to get that really old-school MP3 sound). The same result without the work of making a filter.
