  2. Interestingly enough his first movie role was in Cruising, where he played a clerk schooling Al Pacino on what different coloured hankies hanging out of the back pocket mean in the hardcore gay scene.

Remember him as Philip Marlowe in two fairly poor series based on Chandler's short stories. I think the first series was British-made and the second, Canadian. I also recall too much gun-play!

Rayna's father. A key figure the first couple of seasons.

When they were younger, I used to think Craig T. Nelson and Powers Boothe looked, acted and sounded similar and sometimes would mix them up when either of them were just in a cameo role for something.

Wasn't he the president or VP in 24 for a while?

Loved him in `Southern Comfort'. Had no idea he was in `Cruising', which is one of my favourite films(!).

An actor who played evil so well you just wanted him out of the show as soon as possible - until it happens and then you want to see him more. R.I.P.

  12. Yeah, a small role in Cruising. One of my favorite films, as well. Such a seedy damn flick!

The thing about Cruising is he just explains the whole hanky thing as if he were telling the detective that water is wet. It's just a conversation. Cool.

I don't remember him in "Cruising" either, but its been awhile. I see from the picture above he was the guy explaining hanky-code to Pacino. Wish that one would get a nice blu-ray release.

His best role may have been as the villain, Cash Bailey, in the otherwise confusing and ultimately unsatisfying action film/Peckinpah homage, EXTREME PREJUDICE. He has a couple terrific monologues that are worth your ninety minutes.

A great character actor, especially good at playing villains, a shame Quentin Tarantino never used him.

Do we know if he had been sick? IMDB has nothing he was going to be working on.

I liked him as Alexander Haig in Oliver Stone's Nixon.

I dig him in Emerald Forest, among many movies. I still think that movie is worthy of Criterion Collection treatment, redone with a 4K master. The Amazon rain forest would look phenomenal. Also like Charlie Boorman, the director's son, in the role as Boothe's kidnapped child.
