I hope you're right, but I sometimes sense what I stated initially.

Didn't realize there was a known "origin" at all or that anyone knew what they were actually saying - after all these years of it being a complete mystery to me!

Still a slight mystery though, considering it sounds like it was spliced in rather awkwardly. I'm sure there's some beatlesque story behind it that hasn't been told.

They were. Paul doing the "ahhs", John with George making ghostly wails in the background, a little off-mic. Ron

Ron, you're never going to convince them. It makes sense to me though.

Anyone know what wristwatches the Beatles wore in 1967? I'm a big watch collector and would love to get examples of what they wore.

Ah, it's all good fun. No idea why some folks get so wound up about it, but they do. Sometimes even the most basic of facts don't sway prevailing opinion. Ron

Is it known who the musical composer is for the "ahhh" section and how it was constructed? Just guessing, it seems like an extension of Paul's "woke up" section, so I would think he came up with the chord progression and G. Martin orchestrated it. I've seen this part described as a "brilliant circle of fifths" and IMO is the most spine tingling few seconds in their entire catalog.

    Yeah..catchier than "woke up" bit.

Late to this, but I haven't had the time to visit the SHF until now. My Sgt. Pepper boxset has shipped. Got the email at 12:06 pm PST, but it's been shipped since 2:49 am. I won't expect it to arrive tomorrow, but I wouldn't be complaining if it did.

Yes agreed. I always thought it was John until my stereo got better and suddenly heard Paul singing it. And I wasn't even looking for it.

    Well here is Giles' answer.

Always thought it sounded like John

  21. Bernard Purdie--the fifth Beatle!

  22. Except that Giles Martin has confirmed that it's John:

Finally an answer from a person who would know. Apparently, it is both of them in some form, although Giles seems to indicate John is the primary singer. Now we can all stop arguing about this rather silly topic.

    I'm done now. :)

Wow so it's John imitating Paul imitating John... The sincerest form of flattery.

Yet you've struck me as the most wound up.

Also, and again, the facts you've presented do not prove who sang the aaaahs.
