Any artists that you like that only put out one great album? Whether it be an artist that put out one great album and then disappeared or they put out several albums but only had one that was great. I got to thinking about this while looking at my next band up on my listening list tonight.

Here they are, sadly they only made this one awesome hard rock album and then disappeared.

Only one "real" album, and most consider it great:

    "The Man Who"

...is a great album, full of various wonderful musical textures and memorable melodies, including great guitar pop/rock. It had that classic feel from the start, and flows so damn well.
The vocals are spot on. (I even was willing to accept "Blue Flashing Light" as their experimental track!). By far their best, and one of my top albums of the '90s.

But the next release, The Invisible Band, and others since have not been as inspired.
Better stated - none of the later releases inspire me, as much.

Travis may have had a few good songs since, but to me, nothing touches "The Man Who".

So, spinning it now, I still think it's great, but always wonder, what happened?

I don't have that much knowledge of the band and haven't listened to the entire discography, but I think August and Everything After by Counting Crows is terrific but the other two other albums I listened to were just OK.

Temple of the Dog's self-titled classic and Mad Season's Above would be the absolute winners in the sole-album by a band category, followed by Apple by Mother Love Bone.

Honorable mention goes to the self-titled Quatermass '70s masterpiece.
Another personal favorite though is Gandalf's 1968 psychedelic hidden gem of an album, one of my all time favorite albums, captivating stuff.

As much as I enjoy Sting with the Police, his solo stuff never really gelled with me. However, this album stands up there with the best of the Police:

I agree but still think Wow and Adventure are fine albums that get unfairly looked over a lot because they followed up near perfect albums that were almost impossible to follow.
