Artists for whom you have a firm "cut-off" album

Some prolific artists you stick with forever, and love every direction they take you. (For me, that's Bob Dylan, Van Morrison, Nick Cave and Neil Young.) Others, you love them, too; but only up to a point.

Like, I love the Stones, but I said goodbye to their new releases after Some Girls. With Genesis, it's A Trick Of The Tail. Alice Cooper, Billion Dollar Babies. Rod Stewart, Atlantic Crossing. Jethro Tull, Stormwatch. I did buy some later records when they were released - I originally stuck with Cooper up to Goes To Hell, and Stewart until Blondes Have More Fun - but when I shifted to collecting CDs I didn't bother replacing them.

Sound familiar? Who do you love, up to a point?

 

Having a cut-off means missing out on a lot of fine music. Genesis as an example, yours is way too early as most of their subsequent albums have a lot to offer.

I don't cut anyone off. I evaluate albums on their merit. I don't hold past glories as a measure of future expectations for similar highs.

 

R.E.M. I stop with them at Out of Time. Though, I did like Imitation of Life and Man on the Moon as singles.

 

Chicago XIV

It's not the lack of Terry Kath that puts me off, it's the addition of David Foster, Bill Champlin and all those outside writers.

 

Jefferson Airplane Starship after Nuclear Furniture. Loved them from the first album onwards but lost interest after that, around 1984 or so.

I keep giving Depeche Mode the benefit of the doubt....but after Spirit I can safely say my cut off album is Exciter.
